Hi All,
Since I installed SD 5.5.0.240 I have noticed that twelve activeX
items are not being protected by SpywareBlaster:
(some occur more than once in their list)
HotBar
VCMore
Savenow
Navexel
Topicks
Perhaps other users are also experiencing this. From the Wilders Security Forum I have learned that this is an old problem and seems to have nothing to do with the PC being infected I'm glad to say. There does however seem to a problem of conflicts between SD and this program. I refer the reader to the following link where everything on this issue has been said:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=184019
My concern is the following. Is SD protecting me from these programs via the immunizer even though SpywareBlaster is not?
If so then perhaps there's nothing to worry about.
Regards,
Dave

Hi
This is correct, I too have experienced this. Spyware Doctor's immunizer entries are protecting you. These settings cannot be detected by SpywareBlaster, so appear to be unprotected. Even if you apply the protection in SpywareBlaster, Spyware Doctor will re-immunize!
This behaviour can also apply to the immunizer in Spybot S&D.
Hope that helps

Hi,
It would seem that this matter is more complicated, see the following link from the Wilders Security Forum:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=201278
Maybe PCT should investigate this matter further. This did not affect version SD 4.1. If Javacool is right we who use SpywareBlaster are unprotected against some malware/adware unless we activate this protection again each time we reboot. Does SpywareDoctor give the same protection as SpywareBlaster?
I assumed that they compliment one another.

Hi
It doesn't matter how many times you update the protection on Spyware Blaster, Spyware Doctor will overwrite it with data that Spyware Blaster cannot read (hence why it thinks there is no protection). There shouldn't be a problem with this, however, I will check this when I'm home and can try installing SD.
Hope that helps

Hi,
Just to update the discussion on the Wilders Security Forum I attach the following link:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=201278
The question as to what should be done to remedy this situation without resorting to a shutdown of one or other of the conflicting operations remains open.
Does SiteGuard contain the same protection as SpywareBlaster?

Dave

Hi
SiteGuard is not responsible for that protection. It is the Immunizer feature in Spyware Doctor's OnGuard.
Thanks fro those links, sorry I was wrong. Javacool is much wiser than I regarding these issues (as he is the developer of SpywareBlaster). I suggest you send an email to Support or PM AChen about this.
Hope that helps

davstar,
Spyware Doctor's Immunizer feature prevents malicious Active X object from being installed through your internet browser.
Please be aware that Immunizer occupies registry entries to prevent malicious Active X objects being install in your system.
When Spyware Doctor does this other security application may not recognise this, therefore the registry entries that Immuniser occupies are either detected as "unprotected" or as an infection that uses that registry entry.

Hi Anthony.
Ok thanks. So I can't use both applications as they are incompatible.

You can use both programs :) The only issue is that they're are a few items that cannot be protected by both of them at the same time. Only one program can monitor this at a time.

Hi Anthony,

SpywareDoctor is *NOT* protecting against those items. It is allowing them (by removing the block and ensuring it is removed). Yes, that means that by enabling SpywareDoctor's "Computer Immunization" function, SpywareDoctor actually removes some immunization, if already present on your system.
It is also not a matter of SpywareDoctor protecting them in some way that SpywareBlaster ... cannot detect - it is both preventing SpywareBlaster (and other programs) from blocking those items (by continually removing the blocks), and not blocking them itself.
It is still not clear to me how I can maintain protection of these items (and perhaps more in the future) whilst running both applications.

Dave

Hi,
There are now 14 items "unprotected". Any news yet on a possible fix?

Hi Anthony,
This problem hasn't occurred since 12th March. No items were unprotected in the SpywareBlaster list after SD immunizer runs.
I presume this has in some way been solved, at least for SD 5.5.0.212?

Dave
