How do I disable Spyware Doctor Starter Edition on Startup? I want to use it only as a on demand scanner  Thanks!

Hi
Unfortunately due to the design of Spyware Doctor 5.x (including the Starter Edition) it is not really possible to use it as an on-demand scanner. This is because it uses Windows Services to run (which load before you login to Windows). To shutdown Spyware Doctor please do the following:

Right-click on the tray icon (next to the clock in the lower right-hand corner)
Select Shutdown
Press OK to the prompt window
Wait for the progress bar to complete
Restart your computer

To restart Spyware Doctor, just click the desktop shortcut (be advised that you will have to go through the whole process again to shutdown!)

Hope that helps

Thanks! And if I deactivate the services or put them to start manually? If i do that, will Spyware Doctor automatically start at windows startup? (sorry my poor English...)

Hi
That may work. If you put the services to manual they shouldn't start with Windows, but I'm not sure if they will reconfigure themselves to automatic each time Spyware Doctor is run. The services that are used are:
PC Tools Security Service
PC Tools Auxiliary Service
The problem is that the Tray icon will still start-up and will complain that the services are "starting". To change that involves manually changing registry settings, which is dangerous. You can always then use Task Manager to end pctsTray.exe.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your help. I turned off Spyware Doctor. I can always re-enable to use it as a (high quality) on-demand scanner. I only have 512MB and i already have the spyware terminator real time protection enabled, that problably is enough for my needs. Once again, thanks for the quick response.
