You could also try the following to increase the virtual memory by going to - control panel > system > advanced > performance settings > advanced > virtual memory change > would suggest changing it to whats recommended by windows.
This may help

Hi c_edge.
I thank you for your reply.
I have SD with no AV.
With your advise, as above, the virtual memory was 768 Mb. The recommended was 1535 Mb with a max or 1536 Mb, and I have saved the change, to double the virtual memory.
With that done, I have now installed version 5.1.0.272, to give a thrashing.
If this proves to be as not being a problem, I shall give version 5.5.0.178 another try, with some optimism.
I am sure this thread will be of interest to others.
I shall post my findings in a later post, in this thread.
It is great to get a positive reply with a logical suggestion Thank you.

Hi Guys.
Since I have increased my PC virtual memory to 1500Mb, and now re-installed version 5.5.0.178, everything now appears to be working great. My XP service pack 2 had initially had a virtual memory of 768Mb. This I have nearly doubled to 1500Mb, with a maximum of 1900Mb allowed. All appears great now.
The advise from c_edge, as quoted above was what made the big difference for me.
The increased virtual memory could be considered similar to having extra RAM, but it is allocated on and from the hard drive. So, if you are light on RAM and having problems, try the above. It appears to have worked for me.
