I have had spyware doctor for sometime and no problems I can remember until I did the free upgrade to 5.5. Since I already have a firewall and anti-virus, I moved to 5.5 w/o anti-virus. However, even then, the conflicts started and I after uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times, had to just uninstall it completely.

I can understand when you change a product, there might be bugs and problems but when I submitted an email to pctools support, I got back the auto reply and how to track your submission. When you do that the link does not even work.]

The support is non-existent and they will not even reply. I will never use this product(s) again and will not recommend to anyone if this is the way they are going to treat their customers.

Hi
I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. What kind of problems were you experiencing?

Anthony, thanks for your reply. Actually, today I went ahead and downloaded it again and it seems to be working great like the old version did. I don't know what was wrong with the support link but the first time I got the automated reply but nobody ever got back. It gave a link you were supposed to get your status but that did not work. I tried I think 2 or 3 other times and as of today, no reply from anyone.

Doesn't matter now because everything seems to be fine so they much have got the conflict taken care of. I have Vista Ultimate and ATT UK-verse with McAfee Firewall; Anti-virus.

Thanks again, you are the first offer of help. I am glad it is because it is a good product. I also went ahead and downloaded ThreatFire which is working good.

Could not get a screen back from reboot, would get the non-display page, freeze up. I have Vista Ultimate with U-verse high spped, McAfee firewall and antivirus.

However, as I told Anthony, I downloaded it again today and it is working great like the old version did so evidently somebody got the conflicts worked out or bugs.

Anyway, I am happy now. Thanks mjq I appreciate your assistance.

Cool, that's great to hear :) If in future you have problems contacting support, send myself a PM with the ticket number or your email address and I can help follow up any outstanding tickets or you can call support - http://www.pctools.com/contact/.

I am having the same problems downloading the 5.5 Spyware Doctor Upgrade. Working with Windows Vista, download froze the screen. Had to reboot in Safe Mode, and use a recovery point to get going again. Tried it twice, it froze the system twice. Sent PC Tools a request for help last week, never heard back. Ticket No. \"4050-2022-72\" I suspect there is a Vista conflict, but had to disable Spyware Doctor. Status: Down.

Hi James,

Could you please provide more info - when does the PC freeze? when you are trying to download the SD setup file? or is it during installation?

My first reply via this message disappeared with a message that I wasn't "logged on" (even though I was)..cute.

I had not heard from anyone at PC Tools Service since my message last week, and was forced to take action on my own. I have uninstalled Spyware Doctor 5.5 with help from CastleCops threads. (The Program Uninstall under the SWD- Vista menu didn't work either). I will install a competitive product today. This is my final message and notice that I am no longer using your product. Please remove me from your "automatic renewal" list that numerous threads identify as a PC Tools tactic. Tell your Company to "keep the change" of the remainder of my contract period this year. I will concider it a bargain to be done with this unpleasant experience with your product.

I have replied to you're ticket yesterday, when I sent my reply to you on the forum.

I have SDwAV, paid version. Details probably matter here, with so many software versions available, each in a paid or free variation.

I did not start using SDwAV until ver 5. I have had three "dot" versions since. (17x, 204, 212?) Each release has had fewer problems, for me.

Because of the tweaks we make over time, it's a little difficult to tell where the big effect is. I increased swap space and that may have resulted in fewer slowdowns.
