I could not even run Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 with this sucker. Works fine with 5.1. Thunderbird just sitting on "Loading Message...". I have to completely turn-off the on-guard stuff to get me going again.
Sucks!!!

Hi gilbeg,
Are you using the SD standalone or the SD+AV? do you have Email Guard? Could you try disabling Email Guard and see if this helps? I've just run a test with SD and SD+AV with OnGuard enabled, but didn't get the loading screen freezing and I was able to send out and receive emails.

We have also had problems using Thunderbird with SD 5.5. All outgoing emails are being sent as ascii only - no HTML, also attachments come thru as a small block of gobbledygook ascii nowhere near the size of the original attachment.
We disabled email guard but the same thing keeps happening. After shutting SD down, everything works fine again. This was after we had removed McAfee suite earlier. We have uninstalled T/Bird and reinstalled it - same story.
Will try going back to 5.1 and see if the problem goes.

Further to my previous post, we have installed the earlier version of SD and no longer have the outgoing email interference problem with Thunderbird2.

Thank you ozkelron, it confirms that there is a problem with SD5.5 + Thunderbird on certain configuration. AChen, being part of the support team, perhaps your computer is cleaner than the average users. You know which dll + lib to delete to get a clean slate env after you install+uninstall SD. we dont. I guess that is why you did not get this problem.

I use SD+AV. I run this combo with 5.1 also.
Support ticket #4139-3356-01 has been raised for this but it seems that it is going no where man.

gilbeg, it looks like you are experiencing a different problem to ozkelron. I'll need to do some further investigations with these 2 issues and will have to get back to you. BTW, have you disabled Email Guard-> reboot and check if this resolves the loading issue?
Could you also provide a list of security software installed on your PC?
I have closed ticket number 4139-3356-01 and will work with your problem here if you don't mind.

In terms of closing my ticket and work with you here, I dont know which one is better. I would like to get a quick fix or way around it please... otherwise I have to got back to 5.1.
I dont know how you guys work but I would have touch that emailing support + raising a ticket would be the best and perhaps quickest to get an attention. With just forum, you can just walked away and I dont have anything to chase on - if I may speak frankly and openly.
My PC is running on private subnet, 192.168.x.x. I dont have anything running other than SD+AV. I did not even run PCTOOL FW.

This issue has already been escalated to the developers and QA department for further investigations. We've done some testing and haven't been able to recreate the same problems at this stage and require some additional information which could assist us further.
Don't worry I won't be walking away from this issue and will try to have this resolved as soon as we can :)
Have you disabled Email Guard-> reboot and did this resolve the problem?

Another thing to add, if others have similar problems, they can also add to the thread which could give the information that PC Tools need to fix a particular problem, especially if its from a 3rd party application.

I have definetely Email Guard-> reboot and it did not help at all. The only way I can get by this is to completely turn off the on-guard and reboot.

I have just tested this and everything is working fine with "Processes only" and "All Files and Processes" selected. Could you provide more info? What other security apps do you have? do you have SD+AV or the SD standalone? What version? What is the problem? Can you send and receive emails? does it freeze?
We just released SD version 5.5.0.204, please see - http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50701

Hi all,
I tested 5.5.0.204, same old stuff, Thunderbird was just sitting there kinda something was blocking the communication while it was trying to talk to the mail server.
I Uninstall 5.5 and put 5.1 back it was working as it should.
With 5.5 I tried to disable email guard but no difference.
I noticed though that with 5.1 I dont have email guard, I only have: browser, cookie, file, keylogger, network, process and startup guards. All are on.
I dont know what I can do with 5.5 because I would have thought that by disabling the email guard then it would be the same as my 5.1 but it was not to be the case.
All in all this problem is not fixed and there are a few problem having the same problem.

Gilbeg, a fix for the email issue should be available in the next build. Please note SG and EG is currently not available with build 204.

did you install the SD+AV?
does it freeze the whole PC or just the program itself?
do you have EG and SG installed?
I dont seem to get any problems with SD and Thunderbird.

I install spyware doctor without av, then updated using smartupdate to av. Have tried to disable email gaurd and does not make a difference. Thunderbird freezes at loading message.... I need to go into task manager and terminate thunderbird. Disable Ongaurd and thunderbiord will not freeze at all. Works fine

Was this problem ever solved?
As soon as I updated to TBird .14 I had most of the problems the other users
listed on this thread.
I tried all the tricks listed on the preceding messages and the only way I can use
Thunderbird is to totally shut SW+AV down.
Outlook Express works perfectly while TBird is all but unusable.
So....was this ever solved?

There hasn't any reports of this issue in a while. Which version did you use when you had the problem?
I would suggest trying the latest version SD ver 5.5.1.322: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51512

I'm using .322.
I noticed when I updated from SWD to SWD+AV that Thunderbird was acting up
a bit but when I updated Thunderbird to the .14 version it was all but unusable.
Outlook Express works fine but I much prefer Thunderbird.
What I don't want to get into is a "It's PC tool's fault....no it's Mozilla's fault"
situation. :D Something is amiss...I'm hoping "someone's" next update solves the
problem but I think it may take some communications between the 2 companies.

I have same problem in that sent messages with v.322 are garbled when an attachment is added to e-mail. As well as the garbling of the message, the subject is missing and the addressee (To) is replaced by 'undisclosed-list' !
If I turn of on-guard then the problem goes. At first I suspected a virus but now I know better.
Outlook works just fine. I never had this problem until recent update and have been using SD for couple of years with Thunderbird.
What is going on ??? It seems this problem has existed for quite some time. Surely it should be solved by now.

I use POP to gmail and pipex but I think it is sending problem as other people who do not use SD get the garbled messages.

I still have the issue with both thunderbird and outlook express. If I do not turn off On Guard, either email program will freeze. I use IMAP as the protocol to access my email accounts. I have the latest version 5.5.1.322 of SD+AV and Thunderbird 2.0.0.16. Outlook Express v6. No other AV or antispyware programs installed. Windows XP.

They simply cannot fix this problem for whatever reason. I seriously wonder their development team, do they have the capacity to develop real-class software? How long do people have to wait?

I was having problems with Outlook 2003 and SD. Turns out that the *.pst file was corrupted. Ran the fix utility and all was good. Perhaps Outlook Express and Thunderbird have something like that? Worth a shot.

Outlook express and thunderbird store the cached mail in seperate directories in the users profile. The emails are cvached due to the mail remaining on the email server and retrieved using IMAP. Thank you for the thought.

I have had the problem with garbled messages since May this year (over 3 months ago) and despite many emails to support, no solution has been forthcoming.
The standard reply is to install the latest version but this makes no difference whatsoever and I waste over an hour installing rebooting (4 times), testing and then reinstalling the old version that works (another 3 reboots).
Now I find that the smart update no longer works with the version of SD that I was using so the licence fee is now a complete waste of money.
Why PC Tools cannot test this is beyond me as I have no problem in testing it (in the negative) each time. The same problem occurs on both my machines.
Its not hard to see that both the Thunderbird and SD forums contain many messages from people with the same problem so I know that this is a general issue.
I was recommending SD to all my customers but you can probably guess that this is no longer the case.

By the way, disabling email guard does NOT solve the problem.
Disabling the whole intelliguard thing DOES solve it but is that really helpful ?

POSSIBLE FIX -- After much fiddling..... Within Thunderbird, when I change my email IMAP account server Security setting from "none" to "SSL", this automatically changes the IMAP port from 143 to 993, and IT WORKS !! I can now have all IntelliGuard options active. Of course, be sure to shutdown Thunderbird and reload it.
Now, I am unsure if it was the SSL part or the port 993 part that fixed it, but at least it works. My email provider does not allow me to check the "use secure authentication" box. If your IMAP server will not allow SSL, then perhaps just try changing the port (?).
Posting here and on 1 or 2 similar threads.

p.s. I am using TB ver. 2.0.0.17 and SD+AV ver. 6.0.0.386

Ok, I just tried the same fix on Outlook and it also works (for me anyway:) ). Again, it was the "use SSL" server setting, and/or 993 port setting that did it. Please let me know if this works for anyone else, or if I am just a fluke!
