Hi
I thought the most appropriate place for this was in the ThreatFire forum. It appears that a new PC Tools technology called BrowserDefender (BETA) has been released (www.browserdefender.com). While this technology looks excellent (as good as, if not better than McAfee SiteAdvisor) they have miss-classified a known good website (www.malwareremoval.com) as red because of off-site malicious downloads.
As it is a help site for victims of malware there are bound to be links in HijackThis logs, etc to malware, but can it be re-classified?

I will flag AChen about this.

Cheers, much appreciated. I assume that there will be a new forum for discussing this? Otherwise I would have asked this there.

I assume, however I have no idea. When they wake up down under, I am sure Achen will give us an answer ;-)

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the info :) this has been re-classified and will be updated shortly.

One other thing, did you post feedback on the Browser Defender website? "Browser Defender is currently in beta testing. If you believe this site has been incorrectly classified please let us know (http://www.browserdefender.com/feedback/site/id/53891/domain/malwareremoval.com/)." We'd like to know if this is functioning ok :)

Hi
I certainly did click on that link. I just thought I might get a quicker response by posting here! ;)

If and when a new forum room is created this thread could be moved there.

I have some suggestions also:
Multiple browser compatibility - I like using Firefox!
Protected browsing mode - block access to Red websites with a page that links to your analysis page and links to the page you were previously on (like with McAfee SiteAdvisor Plus)

Thanks

Before I download please explain the advantage of this over SiteAdvisor or similar.:) The fact that it don't work with Foxy or Opera is a bit of drag, nothing works with Opera, but at least Foxy has SiteAdvisor.:(

Just another vote for Firefox compatibility. I rarely use IE. Sounds great though. I hope it does not take long to use it on Firefox.

It's useless until it gets Firefox support...

If you add Opera support I'll definitely use this since no other good alternative has it. That's what always makes me skip these kinds of tools - they never support Opera. Only IE and FireFox.

To sum it up: Add FireFox AND Opera support.

need to put a submit tab(option)on there so if a site is not tested the user can submit a review.

I was looking at the post dates and just wondering. I use Firefox, I rarely use IE because I just don't like it, I use Apple's Safari for Windows sometimes because it's faster than anything else out there if I am in a hurry and need some info. really fast - I think Apple is gonna have to have it support streaming media better along with Plugins before I will ever switch over.

The question is does this app. support Firefox now? I mean when I go to the d/l site it doesn't give me any specifications as to what is required whatsoever. Just wondering.

Hi
Currently BrowerDefender is only compatible with Internet Explorer. I have asked for Firefox support.
Hope that helps

I have IE7 and Vista Home Premium on my desktop and Vista Basic on my laptop. Will this work with the Vista OS?

Also, is there a way to only be able to get ratings for search engine results? I like having info about sites in search results but sometimes I have noticed that when every site I visit is checked it eventually slows down surfing. But even if surfing was not slowed down I would rather have just search engine results. Any way to do this (presuming it works in Vista)?

Thanks

Hi
As far as I know, BrowserDefender is Operating System independent, meaning it should work on all versions of Windows, as long as they have Internet Explorer 5 or above. I'll check on the settings to see if it is possible to do what you describe.
There is no option to stop it checking links in websites and just have search results checked. Can this be added in future versions please?
Hope that helps

BrowserDefender will be available with Firefox :) The devs are working on this and when it is available, I will post an update.

Can anyone tell me if this browser defender conflicts with PC Tools Internet Security? Also, do I even need this program if I already have PC Tools Internet Security?

I only ask this because PC Tools I.S. does a fantastic job getting rid of malicious cookies and blocking nasty banner images.

No :) it should not conflict with PCTIS.

I downloaded and installed Browser Defender and it seems to work great. The only comment I have is that it only works with Internet Explorer as I am sure you know.

Support for Mozilla Firefox will win over a lot of people who are using McAfee Site Advisor.
