Sorry bout not checking everything first, however those still did not work in Win2000. Course I forgot to mention I'm using Windows 2000. However they did spark the brain a bit and using the procedure as follows I was able to do it.
Right click on the shortcut or shortcuts you use for windows explorer
Choose properties
in the target field which looks like this
%windir%\Explorer.exe
Add the following
/e, c:\xxxxxx
End result looks like this
%windir%\Explorer.exe /e, c:\xxxxxx
Where the c:\xxxx replace with whatever directory you would like to have open
Thanks all for your help in this matter hope this helps others. Should work the same in ME

The method I use is 'explorer /e,/select,b:' where B: can be replaced with a drive letter that you don't use. This command will normally open explorer to the location specified, but if it doesn't exist then explorer will open to the next higher level, in this case My Computer.
