View Full Version : Does PCTIS have the full SD database?

Just wondering, because for the last month I've replaced SD4 with a competitor's suite (shocked gasps all round!); this evening I replaced that one with PCTIS v119, then I did a full scan.

Because the whole family use this particular PC, SD4 had always found a few dodgy bits of scumware when I did my weekly scan, even if they were little more than just tracking cookies. The competitor's product didn't find anything, but - surprise, surprise - neither did PCTIS, and that makes me a bit suspicious.

So, does PCTIS have exactly the same detection as the standalone versions of Spyware Doctor, antispam and PCTAV, or not?

Oh, while I'm in the mood: the program quickly needs a context-menu scanner (so you can scan removeable media) and a command-line scanner (so you can set things like Windows Live Messenger to automatically scan downloaded files).

Hi Robin Springall,

The DB version with SD is the same as the DB in PCTIS. Therefore, when it comes to removal and signatures, all the versions include the same signature database and will remove the same infections.

Thank You for this comment, I have been stressing this quite some time. Got saved by McAfee again yesterday due to an infected memory card from a camera this time.

The customer was shocked as the card was brand new. Before he came to me he had dropped by a photo shop asking them to copy the files to a CD, they put the card in their comp, but their burner had broken down. He came to me for the same job, and McAfee screamed up and CLEANED! The guy freaked out and called the photo shop about their computer, and they had NO security on it, it was not used on the net, only hooked to the photo printer and CD burner. Today that comp goes to a computer shop for cleaning and installing McAfee!!!!!
Without this auto scanning of USB ports, the PCTIS is a looser and incomplete in my list.
