Hi this is my first post at this forum. Please help me.

I have an email account with Internet Explorer, which in itself is very good. However when ever I open my Outlook express account it takes the 'Inbox' emails from my Internet Exploere account and transfers it to my Outlook express account. I must stress that it does not duplicate the emails it takes the email from IE (deleting it) and then shows it in Outlook express.

I have lost some important emails and attachments as a result so how can I stop Outlook express from doing this in the future. Please help.

Thank you.

I am going to assume that by "Internet Explorer account" you mean some web-based email account like yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc.

What you are seeing is the default behavior for a POP3 account. When Outlook Express gets a copy of the messages from the server it sends a message that all of the waiting messages were received successfully and instruct the server to delete them from itself.

To prevent the deletion and therefore keep a copy of the messages in Outlook Express as well as the web-based email server do the following.

In Outlook Express:

Go to the Tools menu, choose the "Accounts..." option.

In the popup dialog, highlight the account with the issue. Click the "Properties" button on the right side of the dialog box.

In the properties pages that pop up, click on the Advanced tab, on the top right.

At the bottom of the page is an option that says "Leave a copy of messages on server". Make sure this box is checked, and either of the other two options you want to use.
