I recently upgraded my Trend Micro Antivirus Internet Security 2007 to 2008.

I had to uninstall Spyware Doctor - as it requested - before installation.

I then reinstalled the updated version of Spyware Doctor later on as it's been way more reliable than Trend Micro's anti spyware. And Trend Micro's anti-spyware in my Outlook Express was slowing OE right down. So I turned Trend Micro's anti-spyware off. Which improved things.

Within 24 hours my outlook express started crashing and I lost files. Trend Micro's Internet Security 2008 (TMIS 2008) was making my Outlook express run so slow it kept seizing up and my computer would crash and reboot. I ran a scan with TMIS 2008 - it stalled and the computer rebooted.

I also googled this and thought it'd be best to disable Spyware Doctor as it seemed others were having issues also. And just enable it when I needed to scan the computer.

I contacted Trend Micro, they had told me to uninstall TMIS 2008 and use a special program to ensure TMIS 2007 was completely uninstalled and then reinstall TMIS 2008. Which I did. For this I also had to uninstall Spyware Doctor and reinstall it later, even though I was keeping it "disabled". Over the next few days my computer got worse.

My IE wouldn't work. Then I started getting a blue screen "virtual memory dump" and a clunking noise. Over the following couple of weeks my 250gb, 3 ghz, 2 gb ram, computer pretty much turned into a heap of junk. Everytime I'd turn on my computer within 15-20 mins it'd clunk several times in a row and then the blue screen virtual memory dump would follow.

I uninstalled TMIS2008 completely hoping it would reduce the virtual memory dumps so I could at least try and backup anything that I hadn't already made copies of so I could take it to the techs. It did reduce it. But after a few hours the blue screen "virtual memory dump" and a clunking noise would occur again.

My computer spent 4 days at the techs and I had to get a new hard drive. So now I have to reinstall and setup my computer which is going to take weeks - after two years of using it.

I got another email back from Trend Micro support - too late now - saying that I cannot use Spyware Doctor with my Trend Micro's Internet Security 2008 because it causes conflict with it.(they also listed some other anti-spyware software that causes conflicts)

I told Trend Micro that I've been using Spyware Doctor for quite a while now with TMIS 2007 and love it and have never had problems before with it. I also told them that the only reason I purchased Spyware Doctor in the first place was because Trend Micro's anti-spam was appalling and so I had to turn it off. Which left me with no spyware protection.

What really annoys me is that Trend Micro actually told me themselves (I emailed them about a week before purchasing Spyware Doctor) that their anti-spyware was still new and so I needed to purchase something for protection.

Surely knowing this, why would they even create a software, knowing that most people would have purchased Spyware Doctor (or similar products) that would cause conflicts. A bad sector on your hard drive is serious stuff and expensive!

I've got my computer back and am absolutely peeved at the BS I've been though. I've always ensured I've protected my computer . I worried now and aren't sure what to do from here. I certainly don't want to re-install anything that's going to cause this again.

Hi mjonline,

We have run some tests with Trend Micro inhouse and could no reproduce the results inhouse. Could you please do the following:

1. Navigate to Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab
2. Under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings
3. Ensure all boxes are checked under System failure
4. Under Write debugging information, select Kernel memory dump from the dropdown box
5. The next time the blue screen appears, navigate to C:\Windows and attach the file MEMORY.DMP to your reply and we can investigate this further.

Also, have you enabled kernel compatibility mode? If this has been disabled, could you please enable this and see if the problem occurs? Also, did you install the SD standalone or SD+AV?
