So I've installed Windows 98SE on a desktop with no Internet connection. I planned to transfer files over with my flash drive, but it turns out Win98 needs drivers for that too. I found the drivers easily and burned them to a CD (along with several other drivers the OS required). The cd works fine on other systems, but on this computer, it won't open any of the exe files. The error pops up "<file>.exe is not a valid Win32 application."
I once got one of the files to start opening (meaning the install process began, and then crashed), but even that file brings up the same error now. Help!
Thanks!

That error message has always occured for me when the downloaded file got corrupted somewhere along the way and installation brings up the error. Only thing I could do was keep trying to download a good copy. Sometimes a download manager will help, I use FreshDownload from www.freshdevices.com.

I'll give it a try. I'm just confused that none of the files work. I've actually tried an old game cd since I posted, and it had the same problem.
Thanks

I saw it much more often with Dial-Up Internet and would go to a computer with high-speed and download, burn to CD [this was before thumb drives] for use on my computer. A lot of download problems can be attributed to the quality of the 'net connection.
If after copying the files to the HDD and double-clicking them doesn't work either then the hardware must be suspected, such as a bad drive, bad data cables [gives bad transfer of data] or even a failing motherboard.
