Ever since my last update (v 5.1.0.273) the tray app is not visible in the tray. Task Manager shows SDTrayApp.exe is running but the icon is not visible. I can re-boot and it becomes visible. What's up with this??

Hi tommy122,

So is the SD icon in the system tray now? Did this occur during the update and now everything is ok? or SD icon is still not displaying?

It's in the tray now, but each time I fire up my PC, I have to reboot to see it plus when I hold the mouse pointer over the icon it shows "PC Tools Spyware Doctor(starting). Yes, this occurred during the update.

So are you still having problems? or was it a once off? I haven't come across this myself. Weird things can sometimes happen after an upgrade, so best thing to do would be to reboot your pc :)

SD icon is not visible in tray. There is a space in between two other icons and when I click on that space, SD opens. What's up with that? Is there some setting somewhere that I have missed to not display the icon? Everything else works fine. Surely I can't be the only person this is happening to.

I havent seen any posts regarding this and mine is working fine. Havent had any icon issues before. Is it possible that another program is not allowing the icon to be displayed? Reinstall SD in safemode and make sure you uninstall SD first or even go into safemode to see if the icon is there.

I've had the same problem since the last update to SD. However, my is intermittent. Sometimes it will show and other times the tray icon is not visible. In asking PC Tools about this, they suggested uninstalling and then re-installing SD. This worked fine for a few weeks but the "invisible" icon situation occured again.

This is very strange behavior, especially how it works for a while and then it doesn't. Are you doing anything specific during those times when it does go missing? When its gone, is there like a blank space where the system tray is, where you can still double click to bring up the GUI? Are you using the latest build of SD? and also what other security apps are you running?

In my case I have found that something, and I'm not sure what, is prventing the PC Tools Security Service (swdsvc.exe) from starting properly. There are two ways that I've been able to get the tray icon to reappear and to not show "disconnected".
The first way is to press ctrl alt del on your keyboard and when the Windows Task Manager appears click on the Processes tab. scroll the list in the window and find swdsvc.exe and click it. Next click the End Process buton. This will pop up a warning saying WARNIG: Terminating a process can cause undesired results......
Click Yes. After a while the icon will reappear with the service fully started (this may take up to 30 seconds).

A faster way to get the service to restart is to shut down the sevice using a batch file.
1. Open Notepad (or other text editor).
2. In the text editor type (on seperate lines):

net stop "sdCoreService"
net start "sdCoreService"

3. Save the file as a batch file (I used restartSD.bat) which I saved on my desktop for easy access.
Any file name will suffice as long as the extension is bat

Now after you start the computer, and find the icon is invisible or "disconnected", double click the restartSD.bat (or what ever you named it) file. This will cause a window to open (a command prompt window - usually a black background with white characters). This will let you know that the service is stopping and then starting. The window will close when the stop and start are completed.

I am using the latest build of SD. There is a blank space where the icon should be, if I right click I get the context menu, if I double click the GUI opens correctly. The icon is missing at windows startup. I am using NetDefense firewall, SystemSuite anti-virus both part of the VCOM SystemSuite Pro ver. 7 set of tools. Both the firewal and av are set to allow all the sd services and apps to access the Internet and allow full functionality. As I said im the previous post, the only way that I can get it to show and not be disconnected is to restart the swdsvc.exe. (See previous post.) I'm not sure what is causing the problem, but it seems to be due to the screed magnification software that I use. This software (AiSquared's ZoomText) causes some minor on screen "invisibility" problems.

Disable ASquared's ZoomText and see if this fixes things cause this seems to be the culprit. You can try starting up in safemode as well to see if the icon will load, just incase it is something else. Then we'll know if it is something else blocking the SD trayapp from loading. Make sure kernel mode is enabled as well :)
