I'm trying version 5 again after waiting for most of the bugs to get ironed out of the beta and release versions. I've now got SD v5.1.0.273 loaded.

First item: memory usage. Upon booting up, my system now has 400MB more memory in use than it did with SD 4.1! Holy smokes! PCTools, when are you going to trim this down?!?!

Second, after the install I did a full scan like SD wanted me to. The results came back with 1 "High" level threat of 9 total files. I am attaching two images of the filenames. The first image is the left side of the horizontal scroll window. The second image is with the window scrolled to the right so you can see the complete paths. The MAGIX files belong to the photo manager and music manager add-ons that came with my Magix Audio Cleaning Lab v12 software. The My Documents, My Safe, Desktop.ini file belongs to the fingerprint scanner security software that's on my laptop. These are all valid files on my system. How do I get SD 5.1 to stop reporting these files as threats???

Hi,
I also faced the memory issues as well, but my comp were very low spec and low in memory which has only 768MB in total running winxp SP2. Upon loading with spyware 5.1, I only left 192MB left. With version 4.1, i had around 380MB free. I have downgraded back to version 4.1.

Hi SilvrDrgn & msi,

Regarding the memory issues, the developers are looking at ways to improving this and I will pass on you're feedback.

I have also escalated the possible FP detections to the MRC team and will get back to you on this.

OK, AChen. I await your response. Thank you!

BTW, regarding the memory issue, my system is a Toshiba A105-S4344 laptop with 2 GB of memory. Granted I still have quite a bit of memory to use which is available, but 400MB difference between 4.1 and 5.1 of SD is just too much to take in my opinion. I've been using and working on computers both casually and professionally for over 23 years, and I've never seen something like that between two versions of the same software program.

The detections being picked up are hidden files, which means you have turned rootkit scanner on and this is not a signature detection and this is not classified as a FP. This scanner can pick up all kinds of things. Please note that not everything being detected is malware. The user will need to self determine whether these detected items are malicious or not. I have passed this on to the MRC team and have created a job for this issue to be investigated further and we'll implement something that will provide more information regarding this.
