IKFileSec error.
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
IKFileSec
I am getting this error now in Windows event viewer.
Basically, from what I can tell, this registry key " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ IKFileSec
File Security Driver" is now invalid because at boot up time windows can not find the file ikfilesec.sys. I have looked and have confirmed that the file is not there in the Windows/system32 folder. I assume this is some fluke with some Spyware Doctor program update? My question is, 1) Do I really need this file and if so how do I fix this? or 2) do I not need this file and somehow this registry entry never got deleted during a Spyware Doctor update and if that is the case, is this registry entry safe to delete?
my system is a custom built Win Xp Pro system SP2 with all the latest Windows updates.
Other than Windows taking a little bit longer to boot because of that error, Windows does load fine and Spyware doctor seams to work ok otherwise from what I can tell. My Spyware Doctor version is: 5.1.0.272 and my Database version is: 5.08460 and my intelli-signatures are: 626,691. Updated today.
Again I assume this started to happen on a recent Spyware Doctor internal program update.
The only other posts I see on a similar issue are either old and unrelated or for a different OS.
Let me know if you need more information.
If anybody knows anything much would be appreciated.
Thanks for anybody whom replies.

Hi
This file is the kernel-mode driver for Spyware Doctor, quite an important component. Can you please try re-installing to see if that corrects it?

Normally in an install, the following files get put into windows\system32\drivers :- ikfilesec.sys, iksysflt.sys, iksyssec.sys, kcom.sys
(note - not the system32 folder). I suggest you try uninstalling and re installing the program to clean it out and see if it updates properly. I have trashed my system quite a few times playing about with this program.

What is weird is that the file is there and everything seams to be ok. So if the file is there and the registry entry is correct, is this a bug in Spyware Doctor that needs to be addressed? What is causing this, as is there anyway to fix without uninstalling, reinstalling several times until this error goes away?

Could ikfilesec.sys have been corrupted in the update?
My file is version 5.0.2.1036 (hover the cursor over the file to see), is 41,288 bytes (from properties) and was modified on 28.10.07 at 13.45:26

No Idea on Corruption. This is what I get when I put my cursor over that file.
ikfilesec.sys
Version 5.0.2.1036
Updated: 10/28/2007 at 6:01 PM (EST)
Size 40.3kb
That is all I know. So if this seams like a corrupted file then can I just download a new copy of the file from somewhere and hopefully Spyware Doctor will catch it at the next reboot?
Like I said Spyware Doctor with the added plugins, works fine. It just takes a little longer to start which sometimes causes other things not to start or error out while loading. Once Loaded, Spyware Doctor and my computer seams fine.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for anyone who replies.

It would appear to me that these files are only used by the update. What I tried was - with the program running, cut the files from windows\system32\drivers and paste them somewhere else. Now do an update and you should get the option to update these files (they are all called kernal something or other)

Garak Please can you try to uninstall and reinstall Spyware Doctor. Make sure that you have the latest updates for Spyware Doctor. Further note that the latest Spyware Doctor can be installed from the link below.

Is this a common problem or a bug that needs to be fixed? What do I do if this keeps happening? Is there some configuration specific thing I should be doing?
I'll try a uninstall and reinstall and then I'll reinstall the plugins and see if that fixes things. I'll let you know after a full uninstall and reinstall if this issue still occurs. Oh and the other issues I mentioned have been resolved by the way. Just this one event viewer notice which is weird because Spyware Doctor seams to work fine otherwise and so does my pc. Again, I'll try the full uninstall reboot if prompted, reinstall, reboot if prompted and plugin installs and go from there.

I completely uninstalled Spyware Doctor, Rebooted, Reinstalled Spyware Doctor and it's two plugins, Updated, Rebooted, Updated again.
I get two event errors related now.
The original Event Id that I posted about: Event Id 7026: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
IKFileSec
And now I also get: Event Id 7034: The PC Tools Security Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). Now it seams that the service does restart after the fact even though no log is made but it creates a log noting how many times the PC Tools Security restarts itself. Like if I went to restart that service now, the event viewer will say 2 times instead of one as an example.
Since a uninstall/reinstall did not work, any other ideas?
Thanks for anyone who replies.

Hi Graak, as you have propably seen in other posts by now, the antivirus part of the program will clash with any other antivirus/file monitor running on your system. Are you running any other software that continually watches for changes to your system?
It is interesting to see what happens when spyware doctor is installed on a system running Symantec Antivirus. Straight after the installation, everything seems to work beautifully together but, if you have a look at the Application Event Viewer, you will find absolute havock taking place as swdsvc.exe tries to access each of the Symantec services. Then, after a reboot, spyware doctor manages to start up before Symantec and the opposite happens - swdsvc.exe stops the vital Symantec service from running and error messages appear. When you right click on the event error and look at its properties, does it tell you the names of the files involved?

1st of all, I don't have Spyware Doctor with AV installed, just Spyware Doctor by itself without the AV. If I had the Spyware Doctor with AV I would not have installed any other AV product and also would have posted initially that I had Spyware Doctor with AV not just Spyware Doctor. Again I just have Spyware Doctor installed without the AV.
As far as the AV goes I am currently using the free Avast which is not an issue whatsoever or conflicting from what I can tell. I honestly hate Norton. I do not have any other AV or AS products installed currently.
Again in my System Windows XP Pro event viewer, I get the the error 2076 I posted initially, and I also get the 7034. But I get no errors whatsoever in my Windows XP Pro Application event viewer.
Any other ideas? much would be appreciated. If there is a file conflict I have no idea where to look to see it. Thanks for anyone who replies

May I suggest You uninstall both and try to give the new PCTIS Beta3 a test?
Before installing be sure You do a proper clean-up both registry and files by using CCleaner or similar.
I was running SDV5 and AVG before, and are testing out the Beta. The border line between anti- virus and anti-spy seems to be a grey zone and growing theese days.
There is not more slow-down using the suite than using Your set-up, on the contrary. It seems they have got the Beta3 verson a bit better in that way.

Hi Graak, I have looked back my system event log and found a couple of the 7034 errors back in July but I would never know what caused them. If it is a drivers conflict peculiar to your system, you might want to look into the functions of the program called verifier.exe in your system32 folder. It lists all the drivers on your system and you can choose them one at a time for a rigorous test that will cause a blue screen crash if it finds any incompatibility.
It does not give you a fix - it only tells you that there is a problem.
Procedure (from memory) - list the drivers and choose the ones you want tested.
Reboot and the test takes place.
I think it continues a reboot cycle until you can get back to the original screen to change the settings.
Its the only program I can think of offhand that might help you.

I have less problems and higher (less slowdown) speed using the Beta suite than when running SD V5 final release and AVG Free. Why I cannot tell as 'on the paper' it should be the other way around.

To be honest, I don't have a slow down issue at all. I just have the error I posted about initially and one other error. So if upgrading to a beat fixes those errors so be it. I like the Avast so i want to keep that, I just want to fix these errors unless because things seam to be ok as far as I can tell I should ignore them. As far as the software being beta, I beta test stuff all the time. I just do not like whatsoever all in one suites. If this was a beta version of Spyware Doctor 6 that was stable as heck as an example, yes I would upgrade if that would solve my issue as an example, but to loose avast and switch to a full suite I will not do, or at least for now. If anybody has any other ideas Much appreciated.

I have been ignoring my event viewer errors on these Spyware Doctor specific events and files and things seam to be ok. I just want to make sure that is the best course of action. Again I have tried a reinstall, I don't have nay conflicting software installed, My pc is not slow once everything loads, I am not running spyware doctor with AV just spyware doctor and no I don't want to upgrade to the full suite or try a beta version at this time. So any ideas? I am stumped. Thanks for anyone whom replies.

I haven't seen this problem before. But what I think is happening is that another app is blocking the SD service from starting up or slowing it down to the point where it has to restart itself and seems to work on the second attempt. Do you have any other security apps running? Maybe you have to many programs starting on Windows start-up. Try disabling SD on startup and starting it up manually when everything else has been loaded and see if you get this message or go into msconfig and remove anything you don't need on start up :) or just log into safemode :)
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I have upgraded to the new version of SD but no difference. I have no security software installed besides SD except for the free Avast for AV and that is not blocking a thing I know for sure. I don't think the driver I have an issue with loads in safe mode but I could be wrong. I could try completely disabling SD and reboot and then try to load manually and see if that does it. I know I have closed out and reopened SD and it still made the error happen. I'll try the full disable reboot and start manually when I have time. But the error is still happening. All my startup items are in check. I check those regularly. I mean other than an annoying log in my event viewer, I don't notice anything wrong persay or any system or performance or SD issues.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for whomever else replies.

Try to download Process Explorer. (Google to get it)
Quite a handy tool to search out and track activities going on. Have used it quite a bit to try to find and 'eliminate' programs inflicting/conflicting with both V5 and PCTISS. Rather similar to task manager, but extended.
