SD5.1.0.272 w/ AV
I've been having a problem with file guard randomly messing with permissions and preventing EXE files to open.
It seems to happen when the computer has been idle for a while.
The only way around it seems to be to pick another EXE and then try the original EXE.

Hi jdwvw,
Can you please check the settings on File Guard? Do you have it set to "Processes Only" or "All Files and Processes"? Could you also send us you're history files which include FG preventing the EXE's to open and also a copy of the EXE file. Please see PM.

HI
Are you using TF?
I have a similar problem using TF +SD
Could you please disable this to see if it happens again?
Hope this helps

No TF, Just SD 5.1.
I am not running any other security software at this time.
I need my system resources for work not just protection.
If I just disable the file guard I don't have any problems.
I'm trying the Kernel compatibility mode tomorrow I hope.
SD has to be minimized to the tray and the computer has to sit idle for an undetermined period of time for it to happen. Usually I can just open a different file when it decides to not let me use the one I wanted and then try the first one again. Sometimes that wont work either. I have had as many as 3 permission errors at once though.

We looked at you're log files and didn't find anything unusual in it. We tried reproducing this with the same start-up programs to not available. We'll continue to look into this. Is anyone experiencing similar issues?

So far Enabling Kernel mode seems to have fixed it.
The down side is that it has effected the system performance.
When the computer has been on for several hours SD's ram usage triples and brings my system to a crawl. Page file usage seems to be the same though.

Hi, I have this problem, too. If I understand well, you mean if you try to open something like Firefox, a notice comes up saying permission is blocked??? It doesn't happen all the time and I've been busy so I really didn't take much notice of it, and as jdwvw says, if you open another program and then go back to the previous, or try two or three times, it opens. Next time it happens I'll read the sign.
I have File Guard set to Processes only and TF is running.

For some funny reason it seems that the PCTIS has less failure bugs and less resource usage than SD V5, SDV5 + AV or whatever. Some anoying other 'bugs', but seems to be less Beta than SD V5?
I have cleaned off everything except McAfee site advisor, mainly for the info it gives on Google searches which I find superior to PCTIS. In some cases I like the 'green light' before I dive.

Well, Reodor, do you think I ought to give PCTIS a try then?

I did, and is is not 'worse' than SD V5, seems more to be better. Just be sure to clear out all other security apps to get a correct picture.
