"Runtime Error - rtvscan.exe was forced to terminate in an unusual way"
I have seen this reported in this forum several times over the past year but have never yet seen a solution - absolutely disgraceful! (I humbly apologize if I am wrong). This error happens following a reboot after installing Spyware Doctor versions 5.1.0.272 back to 5.0.1.205 at least. It throws up 3 black screen error messages before disabling SAV completely. Uninstalling Spyware Doctor does not correct the problem. The only way I have found to get round this is the make a backup of the WMI Repository before installing Spyware Doctor and then restore that backup once Spyware Doctor is uninstalled.

The issue with SD+AV and Norton was reported and has been resolved some time ago. I've been running SD with Norton on a few of my test machines for a while now and haven't had any problems over the last few months. I haven't heard of any reports on this forum for ages. It is also advised that you do not run SD+AV with norton AV, not a good idea to run 2 AV's at any one time. If you wish to run SD, run just the SD alone with Norton.
If you uninstall SD+AV and the error still occurs, it may be a problem with Norton??

Yes, you're right of course - a proper uninstall of Spyware Doctor does cure the error problem in SAV. (in my experimentations I had installed it to numerous locations and then briefly forgot about it - thats why it never uninstalled properly). What I do not agree with is the statement that the problem was resolved. All I have seen is the advice saying either 1). Don't try to install Spyware Doctor along with SAV or 2). Try running Spyware Doctor with the antivirus component switched off. Tell these solutions to customers who have paid good money for 2 programs that used to mesh well together prior to version 5.0.1.205. Enabling the kernel compatibility mode is advertised as the solution to conflicts with other programs. It certainly does not do anything to cure its conflict with SAV.
Prior to 5.0.1.205, we had the same number of intelli signatures working great in one big database and it worked perfectly with SAV. Now that PCtools have divided the signatures into Anti virus and spyware databases, this conflict occurs.

If I understand correctly, you are attempting to run two AV programs on the same PC. This is a no no and usually causes conflicts. This is most certainly the source of your problem. Decide on one and uninstall the other.
If I were you, I would keep Symantec and revert to the non AV version of Spyware Doctor. Too bad that you paid extra, two AVs don't work together 99+% of the time.

In regards to the problem, it is not recommended that you run multiple antivirus programs on one system, I notice that you have installed the antivirus plugin for Spyware Doctor, if you already have an existing antivirus then I would recommend that you uninstall Spyware Doctor and reinstall without downloading the antivirus plugin.
You can disable the plugin from the link below.

Hope this helps !!

Totally agree with you Hawkeyelom :) You can run any 2 Av's and you will surely come across problems or increase the chance of something happening. Best to run just the SD standalone, since you have SAV for virus protection :)
