smart update not working

I have no other security software on my computer. I have windows vista, got error message last night, but now the smart update window will not open.. Any suggestions

I got window to open and it encountered a problem and generated exception report. I have 5.1.0.272. Since I downloaded this version, i have had no update... If possible give me a email addresse, and i will email report

I have the same problem. Right after installing SD, the first update functions. After that I get error message

"Samrt Update has encountered a problem and generated an exception report..."

Windows Vista Home Premium OS, never had the same problem with Win XP.

I recently installed Spyware Doctor on my desktop with Vista Home Premium. After the initial update during installation I have been unable to update the software. Update.exe has been added to the rules of my firewall with no change.

I'd appreciate some help in keeping Spyware Doctor updated.

To help resolve this, disable you're Firewall and any AV's you have running then try running a Smart Update. If this works then, turn on you're security programs one by one to see which application is blocking the update. Once you find it, please add swdsvc.exe, swdoctor.exe and update.exe to the allowed list and see if this helps.

I disabled my AV (Avast!) and the firewall (Windows Vista) to no avail. Adding the files mentioned had no affect either.

Run SD in safemode with networking and try performing an update. If this still doesn't work, please send a PM with you're order number or license code and I'll assist you further.

I also have the same problem with updates sent the error report to pc tools.
