First IS install attempt froze at the "Initializing" message.
(I was installing from a network folder and wondered if the interruption to the Windows "Network Bridge" when inserting "PCTLsp.exe" had something do do with it.)

Second attempt (from local folder) successful. I was installing remotely by VNC and while I found it very convenient that the IS firewall component allowed the VNC server to accept my remote connection (having been broken during LSP insertion) and then asked if it should allow such activity in future. I did wonder though if this behaviour was by design or by accident?

Re: "Smart Update" (SU).
The SU routine gives no real indication of success. It always says "Update Complete" even if nothing was updated.
There is no SU scheduled by default.
More frequent update checking than once a day should be an option. E.g. 2 hourly upwards.Don't seem to be having this problem: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49151
which is a good thing!

Yes this currently occurs when installing the NDIS driver. We are currently working on a fix for this.

I'll pass the information regarding the updates to the developers to consider.

Hi Anthony,
Just a couple more observations.

1/. Left the test PC running overnight. When I looked at 11:50AM AEST it said:
"Last Smart Update: today, 8 hours ago"

If that is true (at 3:50AM I was asleep), how was the update triggered? I have the scheduler set to check daily at 12:06PM so this should have not instigated it. Are updates pushed?

2/. I looked again just after 12:00 NOON AEST and it now says
"Last Smart Update: today, 12 hours ago"

3/. Are updates logged somewhere?

Thanks,
Pete :)

Hi Pete,

There are 4 options which determine how the Smart Updates take place: Settings-> General-> Smart Update Action.

During the initial installation, the user has the option to tick a checkbox to perform an automatic Smart Update after installation has completed. If you have ticked this checkbox during installation - From the above options, it will automatically set this to "Download & install updates (silently). In this case, even though you have set a scheduled Smart Update to occur at a specific time, the IS will still check with our servers every couple of hours to see if there are any new updates, unless you disable this option altogether.

And the updates are not logged as the information is displayed on the GUI once an update has occured.

Thanks Anthony.

Only thing is PC has been off for 3 days, I booted up today (22/10/07) and:
"Last Smart Update: today, 12 hours ago".
AS info:
"Database Version: 5.08220"
AV Info:
"Database Version: 10.16.9
Signature Number: 0" (haven't changed for 6 days)

Yup, this the Smart Update GUI display looks like a bug as it is mentioned in another thread. I have passed this information on. Regarding the signature number displaying 0, this will be fixed in the next build.
