View Full Version : Total resource hog
This program is totally unusable. When I run the PC Tools Firewall and PC Tools Anti-Virus my memory usage is around 300MB. After uninstalling these and installing PC Tools Internet Security my memory usage is nearly 700MB. It is soooo slow it crashed my system. I had to boot in safe mode to uninstall this crap. Don't get me wrong, I usually love the PC Tools stuff. Its just that the PCTIS beta really needs work before its ready for prime time. :(

Hi Sam,
Thanks for providing your feedback on the PC Tools IS. Could you please provide more information on the problem you were experiencing? Do you have any other security apps installed? operating system? System specs?

My system is 3.2Ghz, 1GB, Win XP. The only other security app was ThreatFire.

Hi
I'm afraid I have to agree also. Although my RAM usage wasn't quite that high. It was around 550MB with PCTIS (also protecting were ThreatFire and CounterSpy 2.5). Now, while using NOD32 and ZoneAlarm instead of PCTIS (with ThreatFire and CounterSpy also), my RAM is about 300MB. My laptop is noticeably quicker too I'm afraid (WinXP Pro SP2, 1.6GHz Intel Centrino with 1GB RAM) :(
There are some really nice features in PCTIS, I would quite like to use it. Please improve performance...Pretty Please! ;)

I have raised this issue with the developers and this is one issue we'll always look to improve upon.

Just a quick reply and a little feedback: I stopped using the Spyware Doctor when I first tried version 5, the Version from Hell. There was no way I was going to try a later version/build of the Spyware Doctor after what I went through.
And version 4.0 was no longer up to the challenge of dealing with the latest spyware, and version 4.1 was also out of the question.
I used to think that the Spyware Doctor and the Registry Mechanic were great.
But I have learned (since I stopped using it) that the Spyware Doctor interfered with my wireless connection A LOT. Also, the Registry Mechanic did more or less the same with my wireless connection (using software that came with my wireless adapter) AND my McAfee software. The latter is actually not so strange, since McAfee has hooks deep in the operating system (Windows XP).
I wonder how a Pctools 'security' suite could possibly NOT be a resource hog.
