When I invoke Windows Explorer, the left hand panel always opens with My Computer Tree expanded, with every single obnoxious directory that WinXP places in there.

Given that I have several HD, and CD drives, this is a pain because inevitably I have to collapse My Computer Tree in order to see the rest of what is actually in My Computer.

I have searched for a way so that particular branch of My Computer begins collapsed but I have failed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

You posted in the wrong section of the forum, doesn't apply to Internet Explorer which is the Browser while Windows Explorer is a file management application and pretty much the heart of Windows.

You issue depends solely upon HOW you are opening Windows Explorer. If right clicking the Start button and Explore it will open in the Start subFolder, can't be changed. If right-clicking My Computer and Explorer it will open in My Computer in the left pane with the drives below unexpanded, can't be changed.

If opening from a shortcut such as in Start, All Programs, Accessories, you can change how it then opens. This shows doing it from the command line but the switches also apply when right-clicking the shortcut and Properties and adding to the Target: line:

I use %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,C:\,/select most of the time.
