Hi PCTools,

Just a short note to acknowledge the measurable improvements when using the IE7 browser with SD5.1 (now 5.1.0.272) over 5.0.5.259 and earlier versions.

With OnGuard Protection on and all guards enabled, SD5.1 now adds a modest 2 seconds more to the startup time of IE7 on my PC over the startup time with SD5.1 shut down. As well, the File Guard guard no longer adds a noticeable delay of itself when enabled. Both are significant improvements over my previously reported results.

Additionally, my test javascript popup only takes another half second more to open with SD5.1 running over SD5.1 being shut down, a barely noticeable difference. This is so much better than the 5-6 seconds delay I reported with version 5.0.5.259, and which made IE7 browsing problematic for me.

So...many thanks for working on these IE7 performance issues.

Here's two more performance issues for possible consideration.

1. With OnGuard Protection enabled but each guard disabled, IE7 takes 2 seconds longer to start up than with all guards enabled but OnGuard Protection off (for say 15 minutes). Yet they are logically equivalent situations. This might indicate an area where further perf tuning might benefit.

2. SysInternals Performance Explorer - now available from Microsoft's TechNet website - shows the SD5 service swdsvc.exe makes multiple disk reads and writes EVERY second, typically of some hundreds of bytes each time. It's the only one of my security or other applications to do this. Is this really the way it's intended to work.

This speed up may be good, but to know that IE7 is still effected puts me off still from retrying version 5!

I don't think that a 2 second delay should put anyone off. Since things have speeded up and SD seems to be working fine, why not give it a go?

I think the improvements in the latest version are really starting to put SD back where it belongs - in the top echelon of Anti-Spyware.

Just my opinion.

Hi Len,

Thanks for the feedback. We are always looking at ways to improve and enhance SD where possible and your feedback is most appreciated. I have forwarded the information to the developers and will analyze this further.
