Usually diagnostic programs have to run in their native mode. Have you checked in the top forum for an answer or checked that the program is offered for the 64-bit version of Vista?

Sorry, don't know as there is any way to do it. From what I've seen most of those type programs won't work in Compatibility mode.

fidai,

I am not a PC techie, and am running a 7-years-old upgraded PC that will only operate with SD 4.1 (not SD 5) due to my computer's slow speed and low RAM potential...but runs well for my purposes. From what I read on misc. PC forums, software builders are just beginning to develop software to operate at the 64-bit level. I am hoping to be able to wait until that becomes the norm, at which time I will upgrade to a "state-of-the-art" PC and retire this antique. I think SD will eventually be developed to operate at the 64-bit level. But, PC Tools is still tweaking SD 5 at its' 32-bit level.

There is another thread in this Windows Vista forum that discusses this subject. Check here---> http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47608

Yep, just have to "go with the flow" when upgrading to the "latest and greatest" hardware. As InvisibleMan spoke about, the software publishers will get around to supporting the hardware and OS eventually. On the other end of things, HP announced no support in Vista [other than what is built into Vista] for 7-year-old and older devices plus no support for selected models, has even dropped downloads of drivers for WinME/98/95 for most devices. It's a case of discontinued products bringing in no money with which to pay the programmers.

I had to deal with a 5-year-old Epson All-in-One not printing and was told by the Epson tech to junk it, not even send it to the Service Center as it was not worth it, client is happy with the HP I got her. That brings up another point, don't think Windows is the only OS that doesn't support newer devices, her Mac OS X 10.2.6 was 2 steps too old for the printers on the market, had to upgrade the computer first to 10.2.8.

I've just downgraded to Vista 32bit because there was nothing out there that supports 64bit...
I miss it soooo much it was excellent...
SD will not work on 64bit neither will registry mechanic...
I'm sure though if you explain it to PCTools they will give you a refund...
Meanwhile the only Anti Spyware tool I found for 64bit was SuperAntiSpyware...this works in the 64bit environment.

I have a copy of WinXP Pro 64-bit and WinVista Ultimate 64-bit but because of the lack of programs I haven't gotten myself convinced to buy the hardware I'll need to run them.

I have vista 64 bit with all programs working on 64 bit expect spy doctor ,AVG Anti-Spyware is the second on list due to pc world reviews ,i bought and it works great .Too bad pctools aint supporting 64 bit otherwise i would stick with them :(.

Just made a post under the Spyware Doctor section. PC Tools should post a poll for customers to request 64 bit software.

I managed to get Registry Mechanic loaded and it too did the loop de loop and ran and ran and ran. It looked like it was going to wipe out every registry file on the puter so I stopped it. Tech support told me it wouldn't run on 64 too. I removed it from the computer.

I've very disappointed.....I bought a twin pack Registry Mechanic and PC Tools Spyware Doctor for 3 computers. The box said the product was Vista compatible. I have XP on one puter, Vista 32 on the house puter, and 64 on my office computer. The box doesn't say it won't run on Vista 64 which is "Vista". This is a violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act or DTPA by advertising it will run on Vista when it won't. I think PC Tools needs to act fast and take care of it's customers and this mal practice. I wouldn't have purchased the product if I knew it wouldn't have run on 64. It should have clearly stated that on the packaging.

Those of us that have registered our products need to be notified whether or not they are going to make the programs Vista 64 compatible and if so, we need to be contacted as soon as it is available and provide us with a free download of the 64 bit program and reset our start dates.
