I'm aware that theres a current thread regarding this problem at the minute, but mine is slightly different (if only just)

I have read that the maximum amount of RAM 32bit Vista home premium allows is 3GB, however when I open MSCONFIG and try to adjust mine, to wont move from 1024. Why, if vista can process up to 3gig, will my system not allow me to increase the amount of RAM.

Could this be down to my Administrator rights (despite my account being an admin, sometimes with certain programs it doesn't acknowledge it) or could it be down to my motherboard - (which has slots for up to 3 more sticks of memory)?

Any help would be much appreciated... and for further info, I'm only trying to up it to 2gig!!

Many Thanks.
Simon

Do you actually have more than 1GB/1024MB of RAM installed in the motherboard slots?

If not, it's not a problem in your situation but it is a limitation of the system.

It is a physical thing with the motherboard that occurs before any Operating System is installed.

Or in other words, if it ain't there Windows can't do a thing about it.

Knowing the specs. of the computer would be invaluable for giving a recommendation.

Or try www.crucial.com and put in your make and model to get what is recommended. There is even a scan feature to see what you actually have. Then you will know what you have to buy to upgrade your RAM.
