Hi there,
if anyone could help me out that would be fabulous! I'm trying to help my mother out. I thought it was that she left a game in the CD ROM but I removed it and thats not it. I was doing a system scan Friday night and told her to let it run. She called me and said this message was across the top.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
<Windows root>\stystem32\hal.dll, please reinstall a copy of the file.

I put in the Operations disk and it would not boot, should I try and create a boot disk? Ideas? Any and all help is appreciated!

Check this link - it may help you. I am assuming that you are NOT running Windows Vista. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000490.htm

Hi, according to the website http://www.processlibrary.com/directory?files=hal.dll, here are the information regarding hal.dll. Hope you may find it useful.

Description: Windows Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), a file that hides hardware complexities from Windows applications.

hal.dll should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly.

I liked your suggested link, as my one of the friend also recommended me the same when I am in such a kind of problem. So in my view this will be the best.
