i am also a great fan of SD

it is much better than websweeper in terms of detection and removal

I have to say that I have dropped SD from my protection line-up :( As much as I like the GUI and scanning, the memory usage was just too much for me! SD5.0 used over 200MB (including VM), SD4.x used 80MB (including VM). Now I'm using CounterSpy 2.5, guess how much memory?

..........................50MB (including VM).
Unless SD 5.0.5 reduces the memory usage significantly, I wont consider returning to it.

I didn't get a chance to try the new version of SD yet, but really looking forward to it :D. I also like running SD, hopefully the resource usage is improved in the new build. I don't really have any problems with this, but some users have.

Best of luck

I'm also hoping that the new build will take care of the resource issue.

It's amazing to find so many people that love this program. It's in some ways a better anti-spyware(now with added anti-virus edition too) program than most despite some short comings like a bit of a system resource hog. However, I am looking forward to a minor newer version that is to be released within the next few days. Let's hope it can detect more threats and run faster.

apparently it was released once the rapidly recalled, it's been a long time in the wating anyway

I have been an owner of Spyware Doctor since September, 2005. I loved the program ever since I started using it. It was somewhat annoying that the program hogged up my CPU upon startup, but after that it always ran smoothly. I ran Spyware Doctor very often and it always did a great job. I am referring to version 4.0 by the way.

Then March, 2007 comes along and a new version is released. This version is 5.0. I was so happy that it was released because I was told it would be much lighter on system resources. I downloaded the new version and I must say I was not pleased. My computer came to a stand still. Everything was very slow and I was quite frankly a little pissed. So, I reverted to version 4.0 and figured I would hold out for a little bit. I checked these forums every once in a while to see if the problems were fixed.

Well, about 3 days ago I decided to give the new version another try. I downloaded it and it automatically upgraded and gave me the anti-virus plugin as well. I remember back in March I somehow was given this anti-virus plugin. I can't remember how. So, I download all the updates and configure all the settings and re-boot. I ran my first scan with the version 5.0 and it took about 1 hour 15 min. This is normal because of some of the settings I chose. It found several virus infected files that good ole Norton 360 didn't.

Pctools is a great company and has definitely come a long way since March, 2007. I am happy I upgraded to the new version and I even renewed my subscription a month early.

Great job pctools. Thanks again!

It's nice to see that things have mellowed out here on the forum.:)

Yep, but maybe it's the calm before the storm. Wait till .258 hits us again.

Well, I'm still onto the 258, and no smoke so far, but as usual some glitches here and there. Will be interesting to se if they have noted any of my comments and sorts them out before next release!

However to go to the thread topic.
I never understand the 'happiness' some people have of programs that detects this and that and the more the better. I would be more happy with programms that does not detect ANYTHING between scans, meaning they have stopped the garbage from entering!
That is a test sequence I would like to see being perfromed!
Of course there are different sand-box solutions, but I'm thinking of the plain 'anti'-programs in general.
Another thing is the completeness of cleaning or cleaning quality.
In the rather unprofessional tests I've made all these programms leaves behind bits and pieces of rubbish after cleaning, some more some less. it seems that the faster the clean progress, the more rubbish, they simply kills the processes from running, but leves a lot of othe stuff behind.

I run clean scans all the time.
Maybe I'm not picking up a lot of stuff as a go along, but I do get congratulated most of the time.
I cant' believe that your playing with that .258, Reodor.:)

I got a good laugh the other day when I even saw 258 on Pirate bay. Now I'm just waiting for the 14 morons noted as 'leaches' to get on the board starting to complain!:D
