I downloaded a trial version. A couple days later I went to buy the retail version. I installed the retail version without deleting the trial version. On installation it said "Already exists do you want to proceed anyway or whatever"

I said yes. I ended up with version 4 and version 5 installed on my computer and two Icons in the tray. One Icon says PC tools spyware dr. (service restarting in 0s) when I mouse over the icon.

I also had the problem with not being able to enter the registration code from the retail version into the already downloaded trial version that is why I downloaded the boxed version.........figuring it would uninstall or overwrite the already existing version on my computer.

Apparantly it just downloaded another version. I have since uninstalled them both and reinstalled the boxed version but to no avail. Still have the 2 icons in the tray.

shadowmaise,

Regarding your query about 2 Spyware Doctor. Please note that the retail version and the website version are different from each other. The retail version asks you for a Activation code and the website version asks you for a license code and license name. So it is always advisable to uninstall the retail version before you download Spyware Doctor from the website and Vice versa.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Once you have activated the retail version of SD, a license code is created and emailed to you. Once you receive the license code, register SD and you can download the latest version from www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/.

Thanks for the replies.

I recommend that Spyware Doctor use a simple check to insure that another version of their software is not already on the computer. This would especially be important if as you say the retail and the download are two different programs.

Many people are like me. They try the software via download and want a boxed copy on hand and its just a short trip to the store to get a hard copy. This is in my opinion a no brainer.

I also have Webroot Spyware on my computer and the first thing it does is check for Webroot and advises as to what to do before proceeding.

I was finally able to remove the icons by using the system restore that comes with Microsoft Vista. Amazingly, it actually is a pretty potent tool in this version of windows.
