First I have heard of CH causing this type of behavior. I will look into it and get back to you.

Thanks D ... it's definetly CH. I was running the paid on one Vista machine and the free version on another and they both wouldn't allow me to log on to ebay until after I uninstalled CH. Suspend didn't work. I just keep getting a cannot be displayed error. Also when I exit out and try to just get on the ebay sign in page it won't allow it. Just sits there and spins the vista circle.

Great info. I will try and repeat this.

So we tried here, on both Vista and XP boxes ... and we were successful. Can you log into other sites that use https ?

I can log in to my bank and cc but not ebay. Like I said if I uninstall CH then no problem.

I tried again following these steps.
Go to www.ebay.com
Click on signin.
Enter user id and password.
Click on Sign in Securely.
Page goes blank and vista circle just spins till it times out.
Get this page cannot be displayed.

Are you using any toolbars and/or ie extension ? Like Googleaccelerator, sight adviser etc...

Kanebrake

No ... just plain old IE7
Just tried uninstalling CH again and went to ebay and can sign in ... no problem. I hate to think I wasted $25.00 on this software. I really like CH and how light it is. Hope we can solve this problem.

I can recreate this problem on my other vista Business edition machine by just installing CH. I'm running Avira free av on that one. Onecare beta 2.0 on this one. Don't see why this can't be recreated.

I will try changing dns servers to see if that will help.

Not for lack of trying, but we still have not repeated this.

By chance, could you look in your CH logs, to see if you have denied a process?

We will keep on trying in any case.

Nothing listed in the logs. I just installed CH again and tryed and nothing. Also tryed using Firefox and get the same thing. Also tryed a different DNS server. No joy. It's for sure CH causing this. I'm trying on 2 different machines with Vista business edition and get the same problem. I will try on one of my XP machines.

Installed on my XPPro machine and I can log on. So it's CH and vista business edition. You are using a vista business edition os to try and recreate this arn't you? Don't know so had to ask. :)

djames

Yes we are. But we did not use it with Avira, or OneCare ... so we are trying that now.

We got a repeatable case. Thanks for the heads up, we will now try and sort this one out.

This is a bug. Although this doesn't appear to be happening in our new version coming up, the current CH version will not be patched for this particular issue. Unless of course we are told otherwise ;-)

Sorry for the inconvenience.

On further testing, I did a reboot and cleared the cache and was able to log in. I will keep an eye out for this in any case.

This is great D ... now this begs the question when am I going to see the next version? Thanks for looking into this. :)

Now that would be telling ;-)

It should be pretty soon, but I hope you understand I can't tell you exact times.

I was wondering if you were able to repeat the Ebay issue with CH in "suspend" mode?

Kanebrake

Suspend had no effect.

I see this problem has not been fixed yet. I purchased this product 9 days ago and can't use it becasue of this problem. Some people might have money to throw away but I don't. When can I expect this problem to be FIXED?

djames

Like I mentioned to you and via PM. The version that you are using will not have a specific fix for this. And also that could log into an ebay account when I have cleared the cache of the browser.

I would like to know if anyone else is having this problem, since we have not had this reported before.

I have Windows Vista, and had ThreatFire running. About a week or so ago, I suddenly stopped being able to access E-bay with either Internet Explorer or Firefox. Or rather, I could get to the main page, but could not log in.

I was not hindered from getting to secure sites, such as my bank site, or other https sites. Only e-bay.

I tried:
Disabling autotuning on windows.
Adding exceptions for ebay to Windows Firewall and Avast! antivirus.
Ran a thorough virus scan, scanned with Adaware and Spybot, went out to Trend Micro and used Housecall.
Disabling Windows Firewall, Avast! antivirus, and Windows Defender.
Tweaking settings in Internet Options for security, including making sure the SSL options were checked. Adding ebay as an acceptable site everywhere I could.
Downloading a program that allows IE7 to emulate IE6.
I ran the system file checker.
Disabled ThreatFire.

None of these worked.
So finally, after reading this forum, I uninstalled ThreatFire, and I was able to log into ebay again. I turned everything back on, reset settings back the way the were, and I can still get into ebay.

The only conclusion is that either Threatfire, or an update to Threatfire, blocks my connection to ebay.

I have problems logging into eBay and Windows Live. Although it never occured to me to be TF related issue. Normally what I have to do is log in. Wait about 20 seconds (I am never redirected and have a blank page) hit stop, then back, then I can click on My Ebay and I'm in.

The same ritual for Windows Live and related services (hotmail, skydrive etc). Login. Stare at a blank page while the progress bar stops at 50%. Hit the back button and click a link or type the url and Im in.

Again I never concluded it was related to TF. But seems to be a redirect issue for me. Those are the only sites causing any trouble. Running IE7 on Vista.

I have also experienced this problem, especially when trying to log into ebay. Just does not happen, but as soon as I uninstall your program, then I am able to log in.

This is really hard for us to re-produce. Since we use and have tested logging in ebay, and windows live, hotmail etc...

We have not given up, but we need to have a repeatable case in house to debug this, so be patient with us, and sorry.

I'm having the same issue with Vista and Ebay. I was able to fix by uninstalling Threatfire, but I had to perform a system restore that put Threatfire back in, and now I can't uninstall it again. It says there is a missing unins000.dat file. Please help me uninstall until you can figure out the Ebay problem. Thanks.

Hi
To replace that file you should reinstall ThreatFire to the same place you had it originally. Then it should uninstall like a breeze!
Hope that helps

For people having problems loggin into ebay etc.. if you delete cookies and clear the cache are you still having problems?

We are trying on multiple systems with multiple setups here (and around the world) to try and repeat this but are having no luck.

This is probably no help to you, but I log into ebay multiple times a day and never had a problem.

As do we. That's our problem, it is not so easy to reproduce.
But thanks anyway.

I have also been having trouble getting to certain websites while using Threatfire (latest free version). I can log into My MSN but not hotmail. I cannot log into ebay, missed several auctions, not very happy about that thank you very much. And strangely enough, I can't even get to www.walmart.com much less log in to my account. It simply will not come up. I have used ccleaner & window washer & manually emptied my cache & temp folders with out any luck. I have tried both Firefox & IE7 with the same results.

I am using Vista Business, running Kaspesky AV and PC Tools Firewall Plus. Everything is up to date. All the latest versions. Suspend does not help, only if I uninstall can I get to the sites listed. I did some tests on my system to see what was causing the problem. Uninstalled all my security software and reinstalled them one by one to see where the problem was. I was able to replicate the problem while Threatfire & Firewall Plus were both running but I have not yet tried to see if I could replicate the problem with just Threatfire installed. I may try that tomorrow. If I do I will let you know the results. Hope this helps.

Hi,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, however I'm a new convert to ThreatFire and installed the latest version (3.0.13.11) a few hours ago. Since installation, I too have been unable to access the login page for eBay as was outlined by some others in this thread.

If it's any help, I am using Win XP Pro SP2 with IE7 and all available MS security updates for the OS installed. I'm also running Norton Internet Security 2008 in conjuction with ThreatFire.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi, we are going to try replicating what you have installed to see if this will help us repeat the issue you are seeing.

Since my posting a few hours ago, I've tried a number of things to see if the problem of not being able to access eBay's web page would resolve itself.

These included:

1) Emptying my browser Internet cache and cookies, as well as deleting all temp files on my system except those with today's date.

2) Turning off the MS phishing filter available in IE7.

3) Lowering the protection level settings on ThreatFire.

4) Placing eBay into the "Trusted Zones" area of IE7.

I can occasionally access the ebay.com entrance page, but it's strictly a hit-or-miss affair. Sometimes the browser will connect me and other times the page request just hangs. There is absolutely no pattern indicating as to whether I'll be successful in connecting or not, either.

Wish I had more definitive evidence to provide, but this one has me stumped. I really don't want to give up on the program and go back to what I was previously using and hope you'll understand that. However, unfortunately I am on eBay many, many times during the day and evening and must have reliable access to my account there at all times.

Thanks.

Everyones information has been a help here. This is one of the most elusive "bugs" we have had.
At last we were able to reproduce this on a system here, and we have a fix for it (hopefully it will work for everyone).
The new release candidate is going through testing at this time, so pretty soon I hope we will push out a new build.

Glad the input has been constructive as ThreatFire appears to be a fine program and I'd like to keep it as part of my system security. Have something new to share which may or may not be helpful and was discovered while I fiddled around trying to solve the problem.

If a person tries going to the normal http://www.ebay.com, it's a roll of the dice whether they'll actually be able to view the page let alone sign in. However, this morning I attempted signing in using the https://signin.ebay.com and guess what?

Worked like a charm every time. Please don't ask me why and I don't know if others will have the same good fortune but it's worth a shot until a permanent solution can be provided. I believe someone else here a while back had previously posted a similar idea using eBay's UK secure sign-in address.

Any thoughts from the group?

Exactly how were you able to replicate the issue? I was just wondering what environment or configuration could be the cause of this. I haven't yet had a chance to uninstall my security software and test Theatfire by itself and I am curious if the problem happens with Threatfire alone or in conjunction with a firewall as well. I am glad that after all these months of trying that our added information was able to assist you in replicating this quirky bug.

Windows Firewall, and ThreatFire. I think it was random. I really cannot say why we were able to get it repeated. And I must note that it occurred on three systems, on the same day.
We have been trying this, since it has been reported. Just weird.

The various combinations of security products people had installed, led us to believe that it did not matter what other products were installed, it had to do with TF alone. Getting it repeated was essential because then we could narrow it down to what exactly was causing this glitch.
Also, people reporting issues like this, might have been softly ignored, since we could not get this repeated at all, so the continued reports made this a priority for us.
Now the fix we have might not work for everyone. It works on the three systems that we could repeat this on. So it's up to the software gods/goddesses ;)
