Hi, whilst installing the latest version of spyware doctor 5.0.1.205 or any other version 200, 186 I got a runtime error during install or even uninstall. I've installed and uninstalled spyware doctor several times since ive installed windows vista but this problem started occuring recently, a few months back i could install spyware doctor without a hitch but all of a sudden this problem occured when i wanted to install a new version. The complete error message is in the screenshot attachment with this message. In addition to this, after installation is complete and if I ignore this message as soon as spyware doctor loads it stays stuck on checking and nothing is accessable. I've read other posts with runtime errors and none of them seem to help, i thought this problem was addressed in 200? But I'm installing 205 and still the problem is occuring? I also have windows vista and an xp dual boot on my pc and spyware doctor installs perfectly on windows xp. Not sure what the problem is on vista. Even deleting all entries of spyware doctor on my pc along with registry entries does not help. Any help would be much appreciated.

thank you, much appreciated. Also i forgot to point out that when this runtime error occurs at a different time like if im uninstalling the program, or if i installed it a second time to try again the numbers for the runtime error are different, not sure if that helps?

If you could get screenshots of the other error messages this would be great.

strangely enough, i justed installed verson 205 again and didnt get the error message this time. And spyware doctor is now working fine. I think I figured it out. Its something to do with nod32 blocking it from installing properly. The reason I say this is because I disabled nod32 for a while and restarted my pc, and then enabled it again and installed spyware doc and it works fine now. Not sure what to make of this or if its a bug or a fluke?

The problem still exists, I wanted to install a new version of spyware doctor and it came up with the runtime error again, disabling nod32 did not help this time!

The developers are currently working on a fix for the runtime error. This should be resolved in the next version of SD.
I'll let you know once I receive more info :)

Problem not fixed in the new version (5.1), I got a new runtime error, screenshots below. The first picture (error 1) is during installation, and the 2nd picture (error 2) is during uninstall.

Yup, I've encountered the same problem. I purchased my licence key yet cannot enter it successfully into the program because it says 'checking' all the time. I've tried safe mode with networking too. Any ideas anyone? I've contacted support but haven't heard back from them yet.

Edit: my licence is for Spyware Doctor with Antivirus, I thought I might be able to download an older version to see if that worked but can't find an older version to download.

arobin05,

Yes, I have a problem like this myself, but I think it was just a glitch with that version of Spyware Doctor. I did a clean install of Spyware Doctor today (uninstalled old version and reinstalled latest build from the PC Tools Website) and it fixed it.

Just my thoughts anyway.

I have been experimenting with something, I tried installing spyware doctor from another user account on windows vista and it seems to install perfectly. When I went back to my own account (where the problems exists), and I ran spyware doctor it runs fine. However when I went to uninstall it (from my account) it gave the same runtime error. Maybe the problem for me exists in this user account? But why it exists I have no idea.

Same here, hoping to have a fix soon as it's a major crash.

It worked! I have no idea why changing user accounts made a difference... but thanks for the help. :D

Still no fix ?

I don't think this is fixed yet as I haven't seen any mention. Have you tried the workaround by zaid786?? to see if this helps?

Changing user accounts works for me, however im not sure it works for everyone. Some poeple have reported that it works, no harm in giving it a try seen as pctools doesn't bother to help.

On version 5.5 beta I did get a runtime error during install, but the program still manages to initialise all the components and run normally. I think this is a good sign on future development of the program. See attached images.
