I read a post by Hunter in another thread that version 5.1 was out on July 23. Is this available via smart update or do we have to go to the website and download it? To my knowledge my smart update has been running and I'm still on 5.0.1.205.

Hi All,

The post from Hunter is incorrect and I have removed the post. A new version will be coming out shortly and when I receive a definite answer, I'll let you know :)

Is this one going to be quicker than the present version. Also will it run in safe mode???

Hi
Version 5 does run in safe mode, the tray icon isnt present but both Spyware Doctor Service (swdsvc.exe) and Spwyare Doctor Auxillary Service (svcntaux.exe) will be running in Safe Mode.

All versions run in safemode :D and I don't see any reason why the new version wouldn't :D

IMHO, theres really no reason to run in safemode, unless you believe another application/process is conflicting with the functionality of SD.

Hi
I was told that it will be 5.0.5 (not 5.1) released sometime this week, I presume (and hope) they are thoroughly BETA testing this version before releasing it

After all the hellish times we sufferred with the latest releases, may I recommend that the new version gets released as
6.6.6?
In modern popular culture, 666 has become one of the most widely recognized symbols for Satan or the Devil.
In Chinese culture, 666 sounds a lot like the words 'Things going smoothly'. It is considered one of the luckiest numbers in Chinese culture.
PC Tools needs all the help they can get to have a better released than those they gave us during the last year time.

OK Just downloaded new version and am waiting to see what happens. So far - smooth install, pretty fast Intelliscan, new feature with CPU. Looking good but too early to say for sure. Got my fingers crossed...

Hi Everyone,

Please disregard my previous message. We have rolled back to the previous version of SD 5.0.1.205, for the time being. I will notify you about the new build shortly.

For those that have installed 5.0.5.258, please uninstall this version and re-install 5.0.1.205.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Dear Matt, it appears YOURSELF, and the many other PAYING customers who have remained loyal to SD since the disastrous early release of SD5 in March are the BETA TESTERS!

I still pop my head in from time to time, curiosity can be a terrible disease, (apart from killing the cat LOL!)

I must admit if I currently had a licence for SD I would probably do exactly the same as yourself. I have little patience for 'software behaving badly' as when I get the time at the PC I like to be productive and not constantly wrestling with it, (though it got a good punching a couple of weeks ago ), and probably would have just ended up ripping out the hard drive and chucking it out the window here into the back garden, in a temper, if I had stuck with SD5 this length of time. :D

I just started using SDv5.0.1.205 and it has been working fairly well. Then yesterday had the opportunity to download and install SDv5.0.5.258 and this version worked like a charm. It used up alot of system resources while starting up, as mentioned by Typhoon in another thread, but this only went on for a few seconds and once it got started, everything worked great. It seemed alot lighter then the 205 version and has a better look and feel. Also like the scan percentage during a scan. I haven't been on these forums for long enough to try out those previous versions, I probably would have been worked up to, if a product didn't work as it did, and would probably try something else in the meantime, but I think that things are finally on the right track, judging from the 2 versions that I have tried :) so a double thumbs up.

Agree with you there Michelle. I had the same experience with the new version and liked the new scanning format, too. Let's hope they sort it out soon and we get to keep it next time.
I seem to have been pretty lucky with V5 compared to others but I can understand the frustration as I don't have thousands of hours free to spend wrestling with software on a daily basis, either.
Having said that, even Microsoft products seem to need quite a bit of wrestling from time to time, not to mention other products. Nothing is simple any more.
