Not that long ago I installed a program called win32pad. It looked like it would be a nice replacement for the clunky notepad program. However, besides only supporting fixed width fonts, it also rearranged something in the registry that deals with the default way in which some are handled. Worse, getting rid of it and putting notepad+ in its place did not fix the problem.
Basically, the file types under View:Folder Options, still have the correct information and seem to indicate that the files should load correctly. However, since I installed it, Internet Explorer insists on trying to download txt files, rather than just displaying them. And .rm files (Real Player movies) get loaded in notepad, instead of by Real Player. There are probably others that won't work correctly, but I have so far not found them. Strangly .ram files do run correctly. I can't figure it out and have exhausted the limits of what I know how to do to fix the problem. Also, anyone know how the fix Internet Explorers tendency to forget the setting for (Dial if not connected)?
