"scandisk detected an invalid long filename entry on this drive but was unable to fix it.to fix this problem run scandisk for windows" i have a "pc" without floopy disk or cd-rom to start up with a boot disk. also VMM32.VXD is missing :confused: .i fix the problem with scandisk.exe (add a line device:c:\windows\himem.sys with copy con -edit config.sys bad command-).what can i do to fix this problem?

If you have Win98 or Win98SE you can put SFC in the Start, Run box and let it find and replace missing or corrupted files. It relies on having the .cab files on the HDD, usually in the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs Folder and copied there from the CD by the builder of the computer. But since you have no CD drive it may be impossible to fix if those files do not exist on the HDD.

WinME has its System Restore but again may rely upon having the files from the CD available if system files have to be restored.
