A few more details would help answer this one:

What error are you getting? What brand and model DVD-ROM? Are you using the latest drivers? Which DVD player application are you using?

oh yeah, when i use CyberLink's PowerDVD the error i get says "ASPI for Windows is not availabe. Only a 32-bit CD-ROM driver is supported." the driver i have installed is "ATAPI DVD-ROM STAR2000". i think it's the Windows standard.

when i use InterVideo's WinDVD2000 it starts the movie, then stops after the FBI warning.

sometimes, with both programs, my computer will just hang.

thanks for any help. i appreciate it.

I've had something similar to that problem.

First off, did your DVD-ROM come with a decoder card? And what brand/model DVD-ROM are you using?

What happened to me was, I'd get an error with PowerDVD, and with WinDVD it'd play the FBI Warnings, but wouldn't play the movie. So after a bit of playing around, I couldn't find the problem, so I returned it to FutureShop where I bought it.

After asking me if I hooked it up myself, and given me weird looks when I said I did, they checked it out, tried a bunch of movies (they thought I was a dumbass and didn't know anything about it because I'm 14), and all kinds of stuff.

They finally came to the conclusion that the player was defective and gave me another player of my choice (I of course got the most expensive one there...hehe), and sent me on my way.

Now it works fine.

i have no signature
...wait a sec....

I was wondering if you guys could help me. I was using PowerDVD, and my region code locked up on me in region 1 after borrowing some of my friends. All the DVDs I own are region 4s. Would any of you know the registry code, of the hexdecimal coding to change the region value to a 4 not a 1.

Thanks
Anthony

DVD region code is not a feature of the DVD software but of the DVD drive itself.
J believe you are aware of following page:

but did you check the mentioned link concerning your dvd hardware:

PC DVD players can be abit crap when it comes to playing movies.

Usually, it's down to the "codec" (coder/decoder) not being supported.

Mosted domesticated players come pre-installed with all the hardware keys required, but PC DVD players usually do not.

You can download almost any key from places around the Internet, but sadly, I cannot name any off hand.

The PowerDVD player isn't all that good anyway, I don't think.

You are not alone with this problem though. A few DVD's I hire out from video shops will not play on my DVD player - my computer crashes as a result.

The rental shops know this too, and they simply let me choose another movie straight away, with no questions asked.

In X-Setup (found @www.xteq.com) will allow you to change region codes (i assume without the 4-changes limit) by going to the Default UI, ->All X-Setup Plugins->Hardware->DVD Drive->DVD Region Code and there you can change it!

Try downloading and installing the ASPI driver @ Adaptec's website.
