Build 186 does not appear to have solved my internet connection problems. I have just checked my emails and found that they had not been checked for over 2 hours, and Mailwasher is set to check every hour.

Up till now I have also found that when I open IE7, I am told that there is no internet connection. If I click on "Try Again", my home page loads as it should. This has not happened since I moved to 186.

I still get the same error message when I try to close Spyware Doctor that I have had from the start:

"The instruction at "0x022a4727" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read"."

Clicking on OK has no effect. The only way I can close is by repeated clicking on the X at the top RH corner of the error message box.

Hi Stablesgh,

The internet connection issue should not be affected by SD, there have been some cases in earlier versions of SD, but the developers have fixed this issue. Try uninstalling SD, remove the SD folder in c:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor if it still exists after the uninstall. Re-install SD, download SD from www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download/

With the error message "The instruction at "0x022a4727" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".", the developers are aware of this issue and are currently working on resolving this. A new build should be released shortly, possibly the end of this week or early next week which addresses this.

I have done this, but there is no change. Mailwasher still often does not run its automatic email check, and when I open IE7, I regularly get a message warning that there is no internet connection and suggesting I re-try. When I do, I always have an internet connection and my selected page loads.

The version number now shows as 200 in "About".

Hi Stablesgh,

Could you please shutdown SD to see if this solves the problem? ie, issue with Mailwasher and with the no internet connection. After the test, add Mailwasher to the Global Action List (Settings-> Global Action List-> Add). Let me know how you go with this.

I have tried shutting down SD, but Mailwasher still cannot find an internet connection, when it does the automatic scan for emails.

I have aded mailwasher.exe to the Global Action list, so we shall see how that goes.

Still no luck - as before Mailwasher finds no internet connection.

I am on broadband, using a Zoom ADSL wired router. The connection to the internet is OK.

At first I thought maybe email guard would have been the reason but, if you have shutdown Spyware doctor and the problem is still there, it might not be related to SD and adding to the global action list won't help.

Have you tried contacting Mailwasher? cause the problem may be within the software, since you still have access to the internet. Also try disabling other security apps you have running to see if something else could be blocking Mailwasher.

Cheers,
Chippa

The problem exists only whilst I have Spyware Doctor installed.

If I run Mailwasher manually it works fine, it is just the automatic scan for emails that is blocked.

With IE7, when I open it and get the "No internet connection available" message, clicking "Re-try" always works.

PS

IE just did it to me now when I tried to post this. IE had opened OK to get to this page, though Mailwasher was blocked when I started this session. The computer had remained on for the hour and a half since I last checked emails and did some browsing. Spyware Doctor had carried out a scheduled scan during that period.

So you mean to say that if u unsinstall Spyware Doctor every thing works allright but when u install Spyware Doctor and even though the program is not running you find the problem with internet connection. Thats odd !! just let me know if i m right.

Cheers

Yes, that seems to be the case.

The internet connection is there, it seems to need to be asked twice to come awake.

Also I notice that during startup, if Spyware Doctor updates before Mailwasher scans for emails, the scan does not take place since Mailwasher finds no internet connection. If Mailwasher scans before Spyware Doctor, it finds an internet connection.

you could try switching browsers and see if it helps

safari (link in sig) is very fast

I have used a Ghost image from before I originally installed Spyware Doctor, in case the multiple updates had upset things, but the two problems are unchanged.

At this point I am giving up.

Hey Stablesgh,

We'll need to investigate this further. I haven't come across any reports on this at the moment, but it seems like a rare scenario. We'll do some testing with this and if I require additonal info, I'll let you know.

Stablesgh, We have tested this issue with SD and Mailwasher and have not been able to recreate the issue you are currently experiencing.

Please see the scenario details below:

Scenario 1:

1. Install MailWasher Pro 5.3 from download.com
Pls note there are 2 separate versions available....one is Pro and the other one is Free.
2. Now Install SD 5.0.1.200, register and launch GUI
3. Install Email Guard (5.0.1.16a) add-on now
4. Set up POP3 in MailWasher and sent a test email to this account.
5. Setup MailWasher to check email every minute
6. Reboot and check for emails
7. Shutdown SD

Scenario 2:

Ø Now run Smart Update in SD to get all the latest updates including 5.0.1.205 (exclude AV DB & plug-ins)

Scenario 3:

Ø Now run Smart Update in SD to get AV DB & plug-ins

Symptoms: There is no problem receiving emails or with the internet connection.

Also, there is no error message when shutting down SD

Please Note that Scenario 2 and 3 are a continuation of scenario 1.

Since we have been unable to recreate this problem, is there any additional info you can provide that may assist us further.

What version of Mailwasher are you currently using?
What version of Email Guard do you have installed? (To check please go to c:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\plugins\ Email Guard plug-in file is called ContentFilter.sdp-> right click and select properties-> version, the latest version for Email Guard is 5.0.1.16)
Have you tried without installing Email Guard installed?

I have just updated Mailwasher Pro to Mailwasher Pro 5.3.

I am already running V205 of Spyware Doctor.
I have never had Email Guard installed, and do not want to install it.

The error message still occurs when I shut down Spyware Doctor.

I use Windows XP2 and IE7, both are fully patched up to date.

I use Bitdefender 10 as my virus package. This now includes an inferior (to Spyware Doctor) anti spyware component, whereas my version of Bitdefender 9 did not.

I have Office Pro 2003 installed, but the bulk of my software is video editing Premiere Pro 2, etc.

Are you suggesting that I should now remove SD, revert to installing V200 and then work back up to V205?

When I tried to submit this message I was told that there was no internet connection, and try again. If this appears, obviously I am in an unchanged position.

Yes When I re-tried, there was no problem.

Thanks for the info. We ran another test with SD and Mailwasher and we also installed Bitdefender to try and get a similar environment. During the test, we did not come across any issues with a loss of internet connection.

We noticed that, after installing Bitdefender, it does ask the user to allow processes (i.e IE, some of the SD processes... etc) whenever you launch the application. You may want to check that these are Ok.

Also, try disabling Bitdefender to see if this helps, there could be a possible conflict between SD and Bitdefender, we just want to ensure that this is not the case.
