Smart update.

Hello PC tool community.

I have read the list of issues that have been addressed, as well as resolved.

I am having an issue, that has been addressed, and solved... however does not solve my problem.

I can not update period. Even upon installation. I purchased twin copies. One for my wifes Nursing computer, and one more for this machine.
On my wifes, SD works like a champ. updates great. 100%

On my puter this is different. Once I installed it, the initial update before the 1st scan failed.
It went along to finish the scan, and removed the threatslike normal.. It will not auto update though. nor can I click on smart update, to manually check for updates.

the portion of this thread that is in conjunction with your 'been resolved' section; is this,

"Error downloading the list of updates. Please try again later."

I followed the thread posted to the end resolve, at the end the moderator said, fixed the smart update, please run the smart update.

this of course will not help me.. I can not update period.
any tweeks I need to do with my firewall ? anything??

FX55cpu / 4GB crucial ballistix / Windows XP Pro SP2/ AVG profesional edition Anti Virus.
No other protection programs installed.

thanks in advance, and if i did miss the resolve to this particular problem; I must need thinker glasses.

Hey James,

In situations like this, the most likely problem is another application blocking the SD updates, mainly another Firewall program or AntiVirus. To help with this, temporarily disable any Firewalls or AV's you have running and try to run an update. You can also try to add the following SD processes update.exe, swdoctor.exe and swdsvc.exe in the allowed list.

All has been working well with V185. Smart update has refused to work to get V186 in the last few days. Smart Update has worked well previously. Not a firewall issue...any ideas?

I have disabled every program I have running. Same message.

"Error, can not download the list of updates. Please try again later."

the programs disabled are as follows.

AVG anti-virus pro edition.
windows firewall.

With windows firewall, I did tell it to "add program" I added SWD to the list.
I did not add the prosseses though. I guess I am not sure where I am supposed to be adding these 3 items you have mentioned.

Cause I could not smart update, I downloaded V186 to replace V185. It too does not Smart Update either by Auto or Manual, firewall switched on or off or Spydoctor added to the firewall program list or not.

A few days ago, V185 went to update manually and got stuck downloading the last file in the list and then quit, and has not connected again since.

Up until then Maunal Smart Update had been working 9 out 10 times on Vista Premium.

Just did an auto and manual update for 5.0.0.186 and was successful.

I followed instructions form that reply... #42, worked like a charm.. so now, the question is..what did I do to make it work.. what was disabled?

hmm, I need to do some digging with that person whom posted that.
