Hi all,
I am fully aware that Spyware Doctor was not intended to be a virus protection utility (unless you enable its new features), but I thought that its original intent was to BLOCK all malicious software. As we all know, the Eicar test virus has been around for a LONG, LONG time. Today, as a new test of Spyware Doctor, I turned off my Symantec software, and I intentionally downloaded Eicar. NO problem per Spyware Doctor! Okay, I am expecting too much?

The eicar test file is not harmful. It is only a test. Most antivirus companies or at least the ones I know use it to see if their antivirus is working/installed properly, but I don't know of any antispyware programs that detect it.
Edit: Well actually I just found the first. Spyware Doctor does detect it. Make sure your Spyware Doctor realtime protection is on.

That's exactly my point! I KNOW that Eicar is harmless, but why does SD allow it? I have two (2) other programs that KILL it dead in its tracks.

Sorry I went and got infected with the eicar test file and Spyware Doctor does detect it. Maybe you don't have your realtime protection on.

No, it doesn't. ALL of my protection is ON, my last update was TODAY (as a paid user), and SD did NOT block either the download or the running of the file.
Norton killed it dead in its tracks.

It does detect it.
But it isn't a virus, trojan, spyware. You can see my antivirus popping up too in that screenshot and I don't have Norton.

Detect it? You mean AFTER it has been downloaded and run? That's sort of like saying you found out about some REAL good birth protection products, after your girlfriend became pregnant.

You just want to argue for the sake of arguing. It detected it when I downloaded it. The real time protection caught it.

George Others have questioned if SD realy works so you are not alone. It seems It works for some but not others. Why not ask pctools to look at this and post here to clear up this issue.

Hello notE,
I am sorry for wasting the time of this forum, but my problem DOES exist. I wouldn't DREAM of coming here just to argue with people. I have better things to do with my time.
I may just do what you suggested.
Thank you for your patience,
George
