That's great! So Zango has no problem with the fact that their crapware installs itself without user verification, but gets mad that antispyware apps remove it in the same way. This is the junk we are facing out there. Let's hope this gets thrown out immediately as a frivolous lawsuit.

Take a look at their site advisor rating. Is Pctools the only one that detects 180solutions?

suing sercurety company's is one of the many underhand tricks such companys use

the annoying thing is that it often works
ever wondered why norten and co. can only remove the most obvious adware

it shows that pctools have finally grown big enough to attract the wrong kind of attention
all i can say is good luck in court
and don't give in to zango, better lose 35 million than become like norten

A news story link on the above-mentioned Computerworld website says that in 2006...Warner Bros. Ent. dropped their business deal with Zango over questions about Zango's ethics. (Zango does not like a particular way PC Tools protects subscribers? My 80-year-old Texan dad says, "The guilty dog always barks the loudest.")

What about all the update files for SD that gets 'eaten' by the competitors?
Might be a funny future!

You know, lawsuits are a two-edged sword. If Zango wants to sue PCTools over their spyware, how about every victim of Zango's illicit software installation (without expressed permission) turning around and suing Zango? A few thousand lawsuits might make them think twice. Why, I bet it could even get class action status!

"Don't get mad -- get even!" :D

Have been tried - but failed. Read Wikipedia: 'Zango'.

"We believe the proceedings are an attempt by Zango to influence our reclassification process," PC Tools said in a statement e-mailed to IDG late Thursday. "Prior to the lawsuit we were well into an in-depth review and reclassification of the latest versions of Zango products," PC Tools said. "We advised Zango of this imminent re-rating and we believe they have chosen to lodge these proceedings as a way to gain media attention of the review."

Since Zango is aware that they're immune from a Class Action Suite, my take is that they are attempting a "Bully Approach".

Formerly known as 180solutions Inc., Zango is trying to clean up its tarnished reputation. In November it paid $3 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that its software was being installed deceptively on PCs.

AFAICT: this is an admission of guilt. If allowed to be entered into the preceedings, Zango has got Zilch, Zip, Nada...

Obviously a student of the law would know better than I.

Other scumware companies have done this with other security companies. They are trying to intimidate PC Tools and, indirectly, other security companies. "Leave us alone or we'll sue you, too." Nice that they're trying to go legit. They're doing it the way that Michael Corlionne (spelling ?) did in Godfather III. Their little criminal minds can't see beyond their old ways and they will ultimately go back to business as usual.
