I have cancelled my annual subscription going forward, but only had the subs since Nov 06.
How do I cancel to get a pro rata refund for the unused months. I have been unable to use either SD 4 or SD5 since the new version came out.
If i try to reinstall SD4.1, all that happens is I go to reboot hell.
Thanks

They were not exactly accommodating when I asked them for a refund after the Spyware Doctor 5 debacle that had cost me at least 20 hours. In the end I had to reformat my harddrive and reinstall Windows XP and all the rest because my system was broken. My subscription also ends in November 2007. Beware of the auto subscription renewal !
Maybe you would be interested in trying 4.0 ? It's not the latest, and in a way it won't keep up with the evolving spyware threat, but it does give you some active protection and they will continue to update the spyware signature database for some time. It may work on your computer. I still have it, for the time being. But don't ask me for a link. You may find a link on this forum (google? ) or you could ask support for a link. Deinstalling your current version would be recommended (write down the license code/name) and if you know how to do it properly, you can then manually delete all relevant files, clean out the registry, and then fix the registry with a program that can do that (I still have the Registry Mechanic, no subscription of course). Just be careful.

You can download SDv4.1 from: http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/version4/.
I have tried this version and it works great. But I much prefer the version 5. I think pc tools will continue to develop this version, seeing how they just released version 4.1.

Thanks Misery, Maybe SD4 is an option. I would rather have a bit of it rather than none of it. Do you know where I can download SD4 from the PC tools site?
Thanks King_G but 4.1 is a definite no go. The only place it takes me is reboot hell. I cant even install it anymore
keith - Lets see where they go, they are still trying to resolve mine so fingers crossed.

Hi viney1
Unfortunately version 4.0 is no longer available on the PC Tools website. If you wish you can PM me your email address and I will send you a zipped setup file for SD4.0.
Hope that helps

Hey viney1,
Regarding the reboot hell on v4.1, when do these reboots occur? Is this during a Smart Update or after installation? Any additional info will help us to determine the problem. I have not come across this issue with v4.1 at this stage. Moreover, there is a known issue with v5 reboot problem trying to update the driver files. The developers are still investigating this.

Hi
Thanks for the offer.
Are you PC tools staff? I would like to get it direct from PC Tools as I am a bit weary of receiving emails otherwise.
Please dont take offence, but I have been hit in the past.

Hi Anthony
with SD 4.1 I can not even install the program anymore.
The program will not install full stop. I dont even get as far as loading up and looking at the interface let alone updating it.
When I try and install it, half way thru Zonealarm sends an alert "machindrv" or something like that is trying to load. I grant it permanent access and at that point the machine shuts down and just goes in to reboot hell.
I dont think the program has installed and I cant check as each time it reboots, it reboots again and again. I can only uninstall via safe mode.

Have you tried installing SD4.1 in safemode. It appears that another process may be conflicting with SD during the installation process. Give this a try and let us know how you go with it.

Hi
I am not PC Tools staff. I cannot post the zip on the forum as it is far too large. The only way is to email it. The zipped sdsetup.exe file that I would send is digitally signed by PC Tools.
