So what you are saying Samual you should not install and expect SD5 to run on anything unless its the latest super super fast power machine??.If so then why don't PC Tools specify this on there web site, the only mention regarding Pcs spec is Designed for Windows® Vista™, XP and 2000.And I am glad you got SD to run but there are many with high spec PCs who cannot.

Perhaps you could PM pctools with your suggestions on specs. for computers. They may appreciate your help.

And I am getting tired of people like you telling people like me we don't have a right to complain. We paid for working software and it doesn't work properly for a lot of people. So, I should have to go out and plunk down $2 grand just to get a machine to run SD 5? What a joke! You shouldn't need a dual core machine with gobs of RAM to run this type of software! Every other piece of software on my machine (and most have been there for years) run perfectly fine, and many have higher requirements than SD 5. Why doesn't SD 5 work? In short, I don't think it's my machine that is the problem.
Yeah, you're right. I should just get over it. Who gives a rip that I paid for this software, right? I should just give up and go elsewhere and spend more money for software that actually works.
And yeah, I do have better things to do with my time. Believe me, I wish I didn't have to spend so much freakin' time at this forum trying to get my issues resolved. I would be much happier if it just worked and I could get on with other things in my life. I think the majority of us are trying to find resolutions to the problems so we can make SD a better product for everyone.
You tell us that if we don't want the product, then don't use it. How about if you are tired of complaints, stop reading those threads? Or, you could just send me a $2000 check so I can buy a new machine; then you won't have to listen to my complaints any more. How's that sound?

I don't think the problems with SD5 have anything to do with hardware. I have a relatively ordinary PC - 512 - XP Pro etc. and now I don't seem to be having any major problems. So, I surmise that the main problem here is software conflicts. Let's all work together and find a solution.
Besides, I can't afford a new PC with Vista right now, unfortunately.

SD 5 has been better for me since the latest release but has given me many problems in previous releases. This forum is to get help with PC Tools products, so it is naturally going to attract people who are having problems. We all paid our $30 and if we want to complain then as far as I'm concerned we purchased the right to do so. For many of the complainers, their machines work fine without SD 5, but have serious problems with SD 5. I think that it is a logical conclusion that SD 5 is behind the problems. What you don't understand is that the complainers are trying to get the program to work. If they give up on the product and stop coming to this forum it may make you happy, but it will also mean that PC Tools lost a customer. Lose enough customers and no SD and eventually no PC Tools. That is just the reality of the business world.

If You in any way are blaming board members for doing any 'dammage', I think You have been here a bit too short.
Quite some of us had computers that worked, uppgraded to V5 - and all of a sudden our computers performance have been drastically reduced. You may blame us for following the company's recommendation of 'uppgrading', but NOT for complaining about a non-working programme!
I would say the company is comitting suicide if this is not corrected - and the time is running out! It is not the 'complainers' killing the company!

I wonder if you have been here since the first launch of SD5 169 and beta testing ????.Now SD5 was brought out for one reason and one reason only windows Vista. But when it was launched to the unsuspecting public if was not ready as many of the beta testers said at the time. Now without doubt this caused many many problems on peoples PCs.Yes agree sometimes there are conflicts with software, but lets be honest here just how many builds do PC Tools need to get it right. Now myself gave up on version 177 or 179 and installed other programs in-fact two. Both installed both running in real time and with ZA firewall and Kaspersky AV running without a problem. Now I would say that ZA and Kaspersky are major players. And if other antispyware programs will run fine, why would the builds up to 179 not.And don't say its compatibility crap,if that was the case. Then PC Tools should have made its software was compatible and tested with as least the major players out there. Its been quite a long time now since the launch of SD5 and lets be honest here its still not fully functioning with all the guards etc running now.Its plain and simple although PC Tools are working hard to fix the problems so they say.The fact remains SD5 was, and still is now, not a 100% ready for general public use,and IMO still being beta tested.By the unfortunate public, who still have the Patience to sort out all the bugs for PC Tools to fix in SD5.Which IMHO should have been done before they released the Beta 5.0.169 to the public.

I don't think it has anything to do with the hardware either. I have seen issues of slowdowns reported by user's with good hardware specs.
I personally find the 'battering' of users with lower hardware specifications than others grossly unjust. This is an antispyware application, which some seem to indicate needs a higher hardware spec. than is required for the Vista Operating System itself. How bizarre!
I've run SD5 on a few different PCs now (although as of last week it's only installed on my Vista partition.) It certainly runs well on fast desktop PCs with dual core CPUs and 1+ GB memory. But I tried it on my wife's notebook with a Celeron M and 512 MB RAM, and it definitely slowed things down.
I guess with dual core CPUs, SD5 can have a whole core to itself. However, my big worry with SD5 is does it work properly??? So I've gone back to 4.1 on everyting except Vista.
U DONT NEED 2 GRAND, I CAN GET U A DUAL CORE 805 M BOARD WILL SUPORT CORE 2 DUO 1GIG RAM DDR2WD 160 SATA2AND A GRAFICS CARD 80 BUCKS ALL UP PLUS WINDOWS 600 DOLARS
I don't really care how much a new machine w/ your specs would cost. I shouldn't have to purchase a new machine of any sort for any amount of money just to run a stupid antispyware app! I have a P 4 3 GHz w/ 1.25 GB of RAM. If SD 5 can't run nicely on that, than it has serious issues. None of my other apps have any problems running on my machine, so it ain't the hardware, whatever you claim. Show me where the minimum requirements are a dual-core machine w/ piles of RAM and then fine, I will get rid of SD 5 and run something that my poor machine can handle.
YES ,BUT WHY SHOULD PC TOOLS RESOLVE THE CONFLICTS,WHY NOT ZONE ALARM,ORPANDA, OR MACAFEE, ORANY OTHER AP, WHY PUT IT ON PC TOOLS.
Because my machine runs perfectly fine w/ SD 5 disabled, but locks up w/ it running. SD 4 worked fine as well. What does that tell you? Right, it's Zone Alarm's fault; yeah sure.

But then again if you look at this vice versa, you could say the same about Zone Alarm. If you were running SD on its own, without Zone Alarm, im sure SD will work on its own as well. So both these programs have a problem and needs to be fixed. Hopefully things will be resolved shortly.

Perhaps, but since my lockups occur every 2-4 days, I am not about to test this without my software firewall running for that length of time. In any case, that wouldn't mean SD isn't to blame. With what I am seeing, it really points to SD. My lockups always seem to happen after SD does something. About a week ago, I saw it lock up my machine 2 minutes after completing a smart update. The evidence as I see it points to SD 5; it is just the most obvious cause as far as I can tell. When you're trying to solve these types of problems, you have to look at the most likely cause first, and I have seen nothing that would implicate any other app so far.
In any case, as far as I am concerned, there should have been a lot more compatibility testing with the other major security apps prior to releasing SD 5.

I agree Allibear:
For any person with a specific problem with SD 5, the best thing to do is to contact PC Tools support and provide all the relevant info (Describe what happens, your PC spec, OS used , required logs....). Even the best engineer/developers may have to reproduce a problem before attempting to solve it.
A subscriber/customer has the right to complain if not satisfied but on a forum it is hard to tell the difference between a genuine complaint and a fabricated lie intended to misinform or despise. If one is completely convinced SD is rubbish it is just an opinion.
The last time i had a problem was with version (.169 ) and ever since SD 5 performs flawless in my system (other enhancements are welcome of course). My history with Spyware Doctor only started with version 3.2 ( through 3.5, 3.8 and 4.0) but SD was always a hot contention at Wilders and other security forums. Suddenly it appears all previous versions were perfect.

pctools are doing their best and i think it is much better to report a problem than moan at pctools, if you don't like it just ask for a refund or use v4.1

Tom I think it is sometimes necessary and in order to air problems in the open so all can see even chastising pctools vigorously. In this case with SDv5 they need to know customer displeasure and no one should be in the dark. Pctools has earned this and it is they who need to earn trust. I do agree sometimes these circumstances lead to people who take advantage but pctools knew these things when releaseing SD5 much to early. It is the customer who suffers. Who in a responsable position at pctools has spoken openly to the customers about trust ?

And I totally disagree with You. This forum is the best place to ventilate general and common proplems concerning not only SD but PC Tools. Keeping this forum running is one of the very few things I might give them credit for at the moment.
What this forum is NOT for is individual solving of malware problems by posting Hijack This logs etc. That is something that belongs in the general malware forums, and should be directed there. To 100% seal a computer from any sort of malware is impossible, and to be honest in most cases of infections the user is to blame.
If/when it happends, the programms may be blamed for not removing them, if that is what they are supposed to do, but prevent from entering is almost impossible.
This forum should be used for 'optimizing' the product in both preventing and removing on a general basis and for sharing experiences concerning PC Tools, their product SD and other policies like renewals etc. It is a great source for PC Tools to collect info about cutomers whishes, general problems and moods. Individual PM/e-mails is only one opinion. In what extend the company wants to respond to theese comments of different types is up to them. But to me it is the best of product information. I would never use a security app of this kind from a company without a public board. This is where You get the real info, not at the down-load page!

This is exactly the right place and like it or not it happens in every 'products' forum when someone has something to complain about, most user's end up at forums because of issues they have and they also like to share the experience and find comfort knowing they are not the only one and tearing their hair out over it, thinking it's just happening to them.
wouldn't it be much more constructive if complaints were handled via email to support
Well some user's have ended up posting here because they have failed to get responses via e-mail to support.

The forum is for all users to state their opinions and problems and in return receive help from other users who have more technical knowledge and can assist those with less knowledge. However, some threads I have come across may be a little over the top.
I can see how users can find comfort via this forum because they can find out if they are alone on the problem or join in with problems. Find workarounds and so on, which works best, which doesn't.
Also the moderators are great on this forum because they analyze the info from the threads and escalate issues where necessary and help where necessary. Easy access to Support from PC Tools.
A great channel for feedback/improvements from the customers themselves via this forum.
PC Tools has done a great job by allowing those users who are less technical to benefit from this forum. Great source of knowledge and great people on this forum to help.

Refunds will always occur, no matter what the product is. It cannot be stopped, its just up to the company to make things right. I personally feel that PC Tools have turned things around over the last 2 months and can see that they try to help each and every user via this forum with a problem. Which is really great to see. From past experiences, some of the support from other companies are appalling. I seen a thread about Nvidia not allowing the updates and I visited their forums from the link, problems have been there for 2 years and still haven't been resolved. Shocking if you ask me.
Basically is just comes down to if a product works well for the user or not and if they want to stick around. Good thing is PC Tools offers the 30 day money back guarantee for a reason and if the user is not happy, you have the choice to leave.

That might be a 'leagal' discusion. Technically they bought a V4 and have the option of continuing with V4. As long as V4 did not 'deteriorate' they/we have no 'right' to compensation. The 'update' was an 'offer' which unfortunately for quite some people did not work well, but the possibility of going back to V4 remained. Then V4.1 was released with glitches and no 'normal' way of getting back to V4: here is where the leagal question might be of 'right to compensation'. However I think before the issue will ever get solved, either the subscripsion has run out, if not on auto renewal, or hopefully the problems solved.
The bottom line will at the end be how everything is handled by PC Tools. If You get satisfied and keep Your confidence and trust in the company, great - keep on, if not get 'outta here'.

The bottom line will at the end be how everything is handled by PC Tools. If You get satisfied and keep Your confidence and trust in the company, great - keep on, if not get 'outta here'.
I have time on my sub. untill its done I will be here.

Then it is two of us.;)
However for the time being I have disabled (not uninstalled) SD and testing other apps while waiting for improvements in certain areas.
Most have fully functional free trials for limmited time. Gives quite a good comparison and ideas. However run only one at the time, and remember to really clean out the PC if uninstalling. Never use the 'included' installers. Choose apps with forums and browse around and see what is going on. When time comes You have a better picture of the options and alternatives. Whatever tests and rewievs says, if it does not work on Your set-up: Forget it!

IM SURE THERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS,YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE AN IDIOT TO ASUME THERE NOT AWARE,POINT BEING HOW MANY TIMES R U GOING TO AIR UR ISUES?
