Guys we have go tot tell them we want a 64bit version of SD+AV
I have just been in contact with support and they say there is a possibility of a 64bit version if the demand is there.
Well there aint any 64bit Anti Spyware progs out there so they would have a captive audience.
Couple that with there award winning programming and trusted software and you have a winner.
So come on lets hassle them.
I for one wont sleep properly until I know I'm guarded!!!!!

Hi
To be brutally honest. Very few companies are willing to design 64bit programs as hardly anyone has 64bit operating systems. Its a catch-22 at the moment im afraid.
In my opinion you are better off using 32bit environment, but that is only my opinion.

Its not really a Catch 22 we have here a perfect oportunity for 64bit users to voice there dismay and demand something be done about it and what do we get?
Total Apathy!
We will be waiting forever if thats the attitude......
Well sorry PC Tools looks like your right, you have knocked all the fight out of the 64bit community.
I am totally discusted and may take it up with my MP.
No wonder they cant be bothered to make a 64bit version.

64 bit systems have great potential but they are not yet workable

just like 80 core processers they can be made and will be faster in 5 years but for now it is best to stick with they tryed and tested methord

True..

Most 64-bit applications running extremely well at the moment are for the niche markets ( e-business, databases, A/V production and CD/DVD duplication).

64 bit will be more secure but as you mentioned, very few cannot be bothered when it is not worth much to them. But things will turm around after 2008 IMHO. ;)

Asking for 64 bit programs at this time would be like if there were new cars available that only ran on a totally new kind of gasoline. The oil companies aren't going to refine this gas until enough of these cars are on the road but the public isn't going to buy these new cars until they can easily get gas to run them. Now if 1000 people, for example, went out and bought these new cars do you think Shell is going to put the high cost investment into this to supply those 1000 cars? NO.
With a comparatively small percentage of computer users running 64 bit Vista do you think computer software houses are going to put lots of money into 64bit programs?? (insert answer here).

I tried 64. Didn't see any difference in performance and couldn't find enough software to support it. Went back to 32. Someday 64 will come into it's own but not for now.

I still cant find a decent Anti Spyware prog for my Vista.
The ones that claim to work on Vista dont...not on my 64bit version anyway.
Someone somewhere must know of a good one.
Any ideas?

Hi
As far as I am aware, the only compatible antispyware for Vista64 is the Windows Defender shipped with Vista. Some AV products to cover spyware threats, but unfortunately not as comprehensively.

Look, I want Vista 64 SD too. And I've let them know. And perhaps they'll have time to work on it. But don't go harassing them please. That's counterproductive for all of us.

As for 64 versions not being useful, that's not true either. Yes it's going to take time, but the earlier XP64 was really the frontrunner. Vista, due to it's many parallel driver methodologies in 32 and 64 bit versions is likely to help many users achieve 64 bit environments, and you'll begin to see the results of this over 2007 and into 2008. There were more drivers ready for Vista than there were for XP back in it's startup. Yes we are not a patient lot, we customers, but the changes are coming, as are the drivers that everyone wants. It's funny but you'll be laughing by this same time next year as so many "issues" will be water under the bridge.

So yes, SD please make us a Vista 64 version. But we understand it takes time to move things forward, and we hope for a good and useful product as we've had in the past.

It's not that it isn't useful. It's just that it isn't creating enough excitement to make anyone give a rat's rump over getting it or developing for it. It's going to have to shoot off some fireworks before anyone is going to notice. But even then the average home computer user simply doesn't care about 64 bit computing, their happy with what they've got, and that's who the majority of software is written for.

I purchased SD thinking I could upgrade it to run on Vista when it came out. I upgraded to Vista x64 and was shocked SD wasn’t 64Bit! 64Bit OS is the way forward so I am amazed there is no anti spy ware program for the OS other then Windows Defender. Microsoft has stated they will not release another OS that is 32Bit other then Windows Server 2008. That will be there last 32Bit OS. Most companies I deal with have the foresight to make their software and hardware 64Bit compatible. I strongly believe pctools is missing out on the 64bit market which will grow fast as soon has people are educated why it's better then 32bit. Lets face it if the gaming industry has realised the potential of 64Bit which it's has then other companies should also. The gaming engines coming for DX10 games will detect 64Bit OS and use enhanced textures to make the game look better because 64Bit allows you to use more ram unlike 32bit where 4GB is cut down to 3Gb because windows can’t use it by default this it not the case with 64Bit you can use all the ram you can afford.

Well I really would like a 64Bit version of Spyware Doctor. I for one can’t see how a program can be called Vista Compatible if it can’t run on Vista x64. PCTOOLS shame on you!

Many companies are thinking whether to release software that is supported by the 64 bit platform. Most will probably do so somewhere down the track as the market grows. There are some threads here where pctools state they are working on this. Hopefully its sooner then you think.

Hhhhmmmmm, they have put no time frame on it though.
Yep I'm gutted that Spyware Doctor doesn't run in Vista 64bit, I don't trust any other anti spyware prog
