View Full Version : Why have you broken it
Why has PcTools released such a pile of S**T.
With the latest version i get
Hibernate not working
Crashes with Symantec Antivirus Corperate Edition
Makes the machines go like dogs.
ActiveSync will not pair on 3 machines
I have in the past insisted that all staff in my organisation run this product but after so many compliants i spend most of my time uninstalling it.
If anybody can recommend a better solution I am off unless pctools can get it sorted....

Hi
Have you tried using SDv4.1 instead? This has faster startup than SD4 and some other minor modifications. It is available from www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/version4/
Hope that helps

Kernel combatibility mode ... Do you think it's fair to expect the average user to have any idea to know what that means ... ? Or for more experienced users to know more than approximately what it means ?

Didn't you realise we were all SD5 testers? ;-P

I've been running SDv5 without any problems, so thats not beta testing. I understand some people are still having problems. I have come across some problems with SD and fortunately due to the help from support, I was able to get things up and running. I believe PC Tools will come up with a fix for those people that require fixes from the developers.
To enable the kernel compatibility mode, go to Settings> Enable kernel compatibility mode (requires reboot)
I also did a search and found this:
What petertron5000 said is correct, enabling the kernel compatibility mode is for those users that experience conflicts with other AV programs. This may help with the situation to avoid the conflict. If you are not experiencing any conflicts, you do not need to enable this mode. Kernel Compatibility mode is a different method of monitoring system events, it does not change the way we scan and remove files. The developers will then investigate the conflict and provide a possible solution.
Hope this helps.
