Well
I tried staying with SD, but given people are still having issues with ver.5 I have moved to lavasoft ad-adware se plus.
It does not show a icon in sys tray and i have still not add any response to this question from their support, but the product is ok, now good it is, i don't know, but at least it is not chrashing my pc!!!

Hi
Adaware SE plus does provide adequate antispyware protection, but its technology is ageing. Did you try SD version4.1? Many users unable too use SD5 have agreed that v4.1 is better than v4.

I can understand your leaving. Just wanted to say I have AdWatch Plus Se/AdAware Plus SE and Websweeper in addition to SD. I ended up buying all 3 around the same time last year. I had an infection on my PC that websweeper was not even picking up. I had lost my desktop and had a solid red one with an offer to buy a product that would fix my PC. SD and AdAware found it and SD removed it. I have switched back and forth between products for the past year and will stick with SD. I have not had a problem with the new version and I can understand the frustration of people who have. I would encourage you to check back with SD in the future because I really have a feeling it will be a top contender once it is running as it should be. I bought AdAware for 3 yrs because it ended up only costing approx. 10 bucks a year for the term. I believe I will renew it when it is up because I do think it is a good program and will continue to use it for on demand scanning. I think you can scan with the free version but I don't think it removes.
I do not get paid by PC Tools for these replies LOL. I just think it will return to it's glory days in the near future.

I have one serious issue with ad-adware, it does not load up in the sys tray and when I click the desktop icon it runs and can scan, so it works on a on-demand basis only, there is no option to load on windows startup, only ad-watch can be loaded on startup and but then it loads like double clicking an icon and you have to clikc the x to get rid of it on screen and it stays in the sys tray, all very funny!!.
Do you have the same thing, or is there some setting or is this not working correctly?

Hi
Adwatch is the real-time protection with Adaware. There are settings to allow Adwatch to start with Windows. Please do the following:
Loading Adwatch at startup
Open Adwatch
Click on Tools
Click on Options
Select Load Adwatch on Windows startup
Loading Adwatch minimized
Open Adaware and open options (click on the cog icon on top right)
Go to Tweak
Select Adwatch
Select Load Adwatch minimized

I also opened ad-watch, under tools and options asked it to load on windows startup. Now when windows boots, ad-watch appears in the sys tray. Fantastic, many thanks.
Only remaining question is, SD appears in sys tray, why does ad-adware se not appear in sys tray only ad-watch? is ad-watch the real time protection part of the product and ad-adware se the scan on demand part?

Hi
This is correct. The real-time protection is adwatch. Adaware is the on-demand scanner/updater. Bear in mind that a possible reason for not receiving prompt support reply from lavasoft is that Adaware 2007 BETA is being prepped for final release in June (dont worry, you should get a free upgrade when it is released)

I agree completely. SD5 .182 ran fine on my PCs, now I've had standby problems since the automatic update to .184. And PC Tools don't have an archive of previous versions so that I can reinstall a version that works!
And now I'm having smart update problems...
I'm really starting to wonder about SD5 - seems like everytime they fix a bug, something else breaks. This is not what well-written code should do.

I'm really starting to wonder about SD5 - seems like everytime they fix a bug, something else breaks. This is not what well-written code should do. It also seems pctools has not a clue on how to correct their problems. Its sad to see people forced to give up because of pctools apparent lack of understanding of what they need to do to keep customers.
