Well i tried SD5 and no succes, but no problem i go back to SD4.
Yesterday i downloaded the new 4.1 version.
But once a day i get a screen that On Guard is off and that the SD is not running and i'm not protected. And that i must click "YES" to activate SD4.1.
But the icon is still at the systemtray UNTILL i click on the message then the icon goes away and SD4.1 is restarting.
A few seconds later SD4.1 is back on track.
I willl try to find out when this happens (which applications i run).

I use McAfee Internet security suite 8 (yes the old one:) )
No problems at all with SD4.

Hi
Can you please try allowing swdsvc.exe, svcntaux.exe, SDTrayApp.exe and swdoctor.exe in McAfee?
If that doesnt work, try reinstalling SD4.1 in Safe Mode (Please go in to Safe Mode by restarting your computer, then continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.
Print out these instructions or save them into a notepad on your desktop, because you will not have internet access while in Safe Mode)
Hope that helps

I will wait till it happens again.
The first time when i got the message i alsoo got McAfee problems.
I'll follow your instructions when i get the same problem.

It happened again a few minutes ago while i was surfing with IE7.
McAfee gives swdoctor.exe access to the internet.
But with the other 3 i have problems to give it permission.

Hi
Is it possible to post a screenshot? Im not an expert on McAfee user interface, is there not a white list anywhere you can add .exe files?

I cannot post a screenshot, but it is the pop-up blocker that sends the message.
With Firefox,no problems at all.

Hi
SD4 and 4.1 do not have popup blocking for firefox. Try disabling the popup blocker (IE7 has a perfectly adequate popup blocker) in SD.

it is interesting, seeing that you are having this problem with SD's "onguard"..

i have seen where some others (not all) are having similar problems with emsisoft's a-squared's "guard" and with "comodo boclean", where they, too, spontaneously close..

on my computer, i am not seeing the same problem with my "guards'" spontaneously closing, but i have been having a lot more "crashes", lately, which i was not seeing, before..

i suspect that these problems that many of us are having are being caused by one of the recent microsoft "patches"/"updates"..

someone thought that maybe the problem with the spontaneously closing "guards" was being caused by ATI's "catalyst control center", part of the ATI Radeon driver-package (so, if you are using the ATI radeon drivers, that is something to consider)..

i saw that a lot of people had problems with the latest radeon drivers.. i am using the "old" december 2006 release of the radeon drivers instead of the newer ones..

Looks like another process may have been conflicting with SD during the installation process and running it in safemode has ensured no interaction with an active process. Good to hear its running again. :D

Hey,

Download SD version 4.1. The browser scanner has been added back in version 4.1, which detects cookies during a scan. This has been stated by AChen in another thread. Download from http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/version4/ and run a smart update.

This should do the trick.

Hi Folks I have just done a smart update and qiuick scan when 5 infections were found .After witnessing the infections the SD programme decided to do it's own thing and automatically tried to delete the infections from Quarantine and FAILED to complete the task. My computer came to a halt. No access to internet, Task Manager , nothing, totally frozen. Much the same scenario as when I loaded SDv5 and we all know what issues that has created.A reboot was carried out and the infections were retained in Quarantine. Seems to be working OK again. Lets hope we are not going down the route of V5.
