Hi,
I keep getting emails from a friend that just will not open, I just get a box saying "Unknown File Type" When asked, my friend says that the file is Powerpoint for example and other people are not having my trouble opening it. It seems to be a setting on my computer. I did try very hard to open one and messed about so much I now have one of these Unknown file icons on my desktop that will not budge. Can you help please?

Hi! Firstly, you should make sure that the file is indeed sent by your friend, and not a virus. Secondly, sometimes when powerpoint presentations are sent thru emails, they do come out as unknown file types, but can be opened by clicking right - clicking --> Open with --> Powerpoint ( Make sure the 'always open using ....' is not checked.).

Could you please provide more information as to why the file will not budge? If you can't delete it because of an error message. Take a look at this software (http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/) that may help.

Hi Skylive,
The Unlocker programme worked a treat, icon gone. The emails from my friend are friendly ones, however I cannot get the "open with" choice by any kind of clicking.

I'm afraid I can't help you with that, as I have never experienced it. Hopefully some one more experienced can help you with it. :D

Hi, No my Powerpoint is 2002. Interestingly the problem only occurs in some emails attachments, usually[I believe] from one source, I will be keeping records in future.
Thank you for your help.
