View Full Version : VBscript/WSH
Simon, You had said in your tutorial that both VBScript & WSH are ready out-of-the-box. Is this a program that came with my Win98SE or do I have to download it of my 98cd like Poledit? Thanks

in Win98 is part of what gets installed with explorer and IE. But you may want to get the most current version from the Microsoft site to start with (see Downloads).
to check if installed: with notepad prepare an (empty) file and save it with .VBS rather than .TXT. Should show up in Explorer with an bluish icon with a paper roll ("script"). If the icon should be the default little windws logo flag, then scripting would be missing.

Thanks Richard, will give it try.
Well, Richard I tried it, I went to notepad,>file>in the save box I left it untitled.VBS, in the save as box I tried it on both options, text & all *.*files, on both options it renamed the notepad window to untiltled.VBS, is that right ? The reason I was asking if it was installed or not is because I did a search in file & folders for WSscript and found a file called WSscriptexe. and a help file for it too. I also tried the notepad thing with WSscript too. It just renames the window and the icon at the top of the window is still notepad. I think I'm doing something wrong. Thanks

J think you did find one part of the scripting stuff.
But why not build the small sample that Simon has presented on page:
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/article.php?id=2&page=2&guide=scripting>http://www.winguides.com/article.php?id=2&page=2&guide=scripting</a>
Save and double-click in Explorer. When you see the greeting in a popup window, you have scripting ready to use.
by the way: in Explorer the icon my be a bluish "S", not a script roll as J remembered. And in Eplorer, when you use View>List you should see the file type mentioned as "VBS scripting".
