is it necassary to run an application such as prevx,cyberhawk,ssm on win xp pro sp2 with spyware doctor 5 w/av plugin(latest build) and pctools firewall?

I would advise using something like SSM. You can what I run by my signature. It just helps to prevent the extra little things that can happen on your pc. Hopefully the new behaviour guard in SD5 will lessen the need for SSM :)
