I guess that this will be my last post, for a while at least, as I'm unable to successfully run V5 build 176 onwards - a known but unresolved issue - I have decided not to renew my subscription and SD is now gone for my PC.
All a little frustrating as up to 174 even throughout its life as a beta V5 had worked - albeit with some of the guards disabled - and I used it for long enough to know that it will a very fine programme once all the issues are resolved - but that's some way off and I need a programme which works now.
Shame V5 was released too early as I believe a lot of today's problems date back to that decision.
Tried reverting to V4 but after V5 it seems slower than ever - so time for a change!
I'll miss the knowledgeable and ever helpful posts from Allibear and mjq424, Katie's wonderfully optimistic view of life, Reodor controversial 'tell it like it is approach' and OUTTA HERE's wicked sense of humour to name but a few.
AChen has always been incredibly helpfully and totally professional - a real asset to PCTools, and so a big thank you AChen.
Good luck to you all and Allibear, thanks for the heads up about SurerAntiSpyware it works just great on my PC.

Sad to see you go. Hopefully sometime in the (near) future a new release of SD will work for you :)

you could swich back when v6 is releaced (or if version 5 is fixed)
I guess I am pretty much at the same point. Every time a new build comes out, I hope all my problems will be resolved. The last couple have even ran fine for awhile before the system lockups return. I have tried and tried to give PC Tools the benefit of the doubt; I would rather stick around and use SD 5, as long as it is stable. But, I simply cannot afford to have a frontline security app that not only doesn't work properly, but locks up my machine way too often. If this was some mundane app, I would have greater patience, but since (along with my firewall app) this is my most important piece of software on my PC, and it has to work, and unfortunately, SD 5 just doesn't.
So, I am forced to bail for now, and beg for my money back so I can afford to buy an alternative (with taxes due tomorrow, I can't afford to eat my renewal fee that I just shelled out a few weeks ago). Perhaps in the future if things get cleared up sufficiently, I will return to using SD, but I simply have no choice at this point but to try something else.
The really sad thing is that this could all have been avoided had PC Tools delayed the release of SD 5; I wonder how many customers they have now lost due to this bad decision - once again marketing deadlines trump product quality.

if you really want to keep on going you could save your files to a ftp and format. i know it's drastic but its faster

Same here , moved to PrevX - works fine and even found 2 programs not detected by SD.

I am afraid I don't get this. How in the world is reformatting my hard drive and having to reload everything under the sun faster than just disabling/uninstalling SD and loading a competing product? Even if I thought that was a good idea, since my machine now locks up almost immediately after starting Windows, I don't know that that is even possible at this point.

Dearest Saxel 'The Diplomat',
What a difference a month can make eh?
You have been a real soldier in all of this from the beginning but there comes a time when you have to do what is best for yourself.
Thank you for your kind acknowledgement, it is deeply appreciated, as I am sure it is also, by the others you have mentioned.
I too have retired SD, although my reasons are nothing to do with the functionality of the program. I am sure, as you have also followed what has unfolded here in the past weeks, you fully understand what they are.
Confidence and Trust, broken and gone.
SUPERAntispyware is also running good on my PC too and for only a few $$$'s more I went for the 'Lifetime Updates'. At least that way I know where I stand and I am not going to get shafted by autorenewals and unexpected and unexplained policy changes in the future!
I wish you all the best for the future and it has been a pleasure meeting you here and unfortunate that it was short lived.

There is an old saying: The good ones are the first to go.
To Saxel, AJM, Padi, LordKiRon:
There comes a time when enough is enough, but fighting windmills like Don Qixote takes the toll and leads no-where. I know You are not the only ones leaving, at least You left out the front door. Perhaps I should do the same, but I'm not quite finished yet. There are to many unsolved problems, too many open questions. The sad thing is perhaps there is nothing we 'users' may do except bringing up the different issues, the solutions are for PC Tools to find. Only the future might tell how sincere they are. I hope You stay 'in the shadows' and watch at least out of curiosity.
Allibear:
perhaps You may have 'lost' the fight for 'the cause', but You won much more: Your integrity! But be 'in touch', it is still a lot to learn.
You have my respect.
