Hi!
We've had Norton AV for several years. It was a real nightmare. We switched to Kaspersky. Worse nightmare! Blue Screen of Death among various other major problems. For immediate protection, I enabled the AV option in SD. Can I trust it?
Thanks.

sure!no doubts you can trust it
it works fine
It is all I'm using (I also removed Norton) and man is it lean and mean. I'm loving it.

Hi
I agree, SD+AV is just fine (and it saves a lot of memory usage in the process!):)

Thats very strange with Kaspersky been running that since version 4 right up till version 6 never had a problem. That is until I upgraded from SD4 to SD5 without the AV.Then my problems started nothing to do Kaspersky more to do with SD5.

it is more the combination of the two, spyware doctor is never the only culprit

Well lets put it this way never had a problem with any software I have previously installed only with SD5.Uninstalled SD5 system working fine, Install spysweeper system working faster that ever without the smallest problem.Tried SD5 even with Kaspersky disabled but still crashed both my PCs.Even downloaded the free version of Superantispyware and even thats works perfect with spysweeper and Kaspersky, and without any conflicts or slow down etc.So you tell me what the culprit was no other that SD5 well for me it was without doubt.

It is important to COMPLETELY remove Norton before putting any other AV on your system. Here is a link of Norton Removal Instructions. If you have not performed similar actions to this you will need to uninstall Kaspersky and any other AV product, do so, and reinstall agian.

You should only have one AV product installed at any one time to avoid possible conflicts, you may have several antispyware, but it is advisable to only run one in real time.
Kaspersky offers superior protection and if you decide to use it, totally your decision to make, you can use the extended database options for adware/spyware/riskware etc. I use this but I also back it up with a dedicated antispyware program. You can try SD5+AV with the AV plugin disabled, if this causes conflicts you would be best to use the SD5 standalone antispyware, if you have Kaspersky installed.
Please note that the issues of SD5 conflicting with Kaspersky are still not resolved yet. See this link to reported issues.

So bare this in mind when making your decisions. However deal with the complete removal of Norton first with all other security apps. uninstalled, (if you have not already done so).

It is worth noting that KAV6 has been out a lot longer than SD5 and there are still a lot of unresolved reported issues still being worked on including conflicting with other security applications.
I am currently trialling different antispyware and nothing is causing any conflicts with KAV, slow boots, system lags, error messages etc. etc. etc. and that is with real-time enabled. Not to mention that the 2 programs combined, with real-time enabled are only using 50-60 mb of ram.

How many tests by reliable sources can you point to which show SD AV detects viruses adequately.

Hi
Please note that the AV plugin in SD uses the EXACT SAME ENGINE as PC Tools Antivirus which has been reviewed by West Coast Labs (http://www.westcoastlabs.org/cm-av-products.asp?Comp_ID=65&Cat_ID=2) and achieved Antivirus level 2 status.

Thanks for the info. I would feel better though once SD 5 AV itself has been tested. The engine may be the same but the implementation could be less than perfect.

I personally wouldn't touch an AV product until it had achieved the VB100 Award, but that's just me.
Not sure where PCTools AV stands on this one, as it is still a relatively new product. Perhaps someone who knows will drop by and enlighten those who are interested.

Cheers for the link mjg424. Thought it was maybe still too 'young' to have been there yet, with their, (VB100), scheduling and everything, but wasn't too sure.

Thank you all for your advice. I did uninstalled Norton with the tool provided by Symantec. Kaspersky was behaving badly on 2 computers. Weird. A new laptop and an old desktop. I was not running the SD AV with Kaspersky. Anyway, if SP+AV is sufficient, I'll stick with it for now.
Over the years, I have purchased all kinds of programs against viruses, spywares, etc. So far, PC Tools' products have been great. The only complaint I have is the multiple reboots after an update.
