This may be a bit early to shout about but here goes anyway.

I have been using Spyware Doctor for about a year now and, like many, have updated everything automatically. The step from V4 to V5 caused just about all the problems everyone else has already posted.

After several weeks of putting up with poor PC performance I took the decision to reinstall as I have just seen the strange problem of having the latest .179 version but also a warning telling me that another update was available. Trying to get this mythical update proved useless.

Anyhow, I went to the main product page and DLed the latest sdsetup.exe version available.
The file shows the following properties:
Size 19,520,976 bytes created 13 April 2007 (probably set by my system)
Digital Signature 10 Apr 2007 06:53:32
Version 5.0.0.179.
I did not uninstall the previous version or do anything with the registry - I just did a straight, over-the-top install and crossed my fingers. All went OK and the requested reboot was allowed.

I use AVG with Firewall so don't use the AV features, everything else has been left enabled though.

So far this morning, my machine is back to its spritely self. No more resource grabbing.

The important bits of the Status screen show the following:
Computer Immunisation is ON
OnGuard Protection is ON
Version is Current
AntiVirus: Disabled
Product Version: 5.0.0.179
Database Version: 5.07080
AntiVirus Engine 4.3.11

Let's hope this is the start of something...... or perhaps, more correctly, the end of something!

Cheers

Hi
You can remove the big ugly red warning about antivirus in Settings > General > uncheck "Display Antivirus information on Status page"

Sweet! Thanks! I didn't notice that either. I was wondering if there was a way to get rid of it. I always think for half a second that something bad is going on when I go to the status page and see that thing there.
