I have just bought and installed Spyware Doctor and now my computer is slowed down unacceptably.
When i uninstall Spyware it comes back to its usual speed.
Next to Spyware i have Adware and MacAfee antivirus installed.
Can somebody help or suggest?

Hi
Can you post a detailed list of those apps (version number, definitions version, etc) and your system specs please?
What precisely was slow? Internet surfing? Opening programs?

Hi Steffen,

You may want to try reinstalling Spyware Doctor, do the smart updates, reboot, temporarily turn off the On Guard feature, reboot again.

Let us know how you go...

To Patrick: did all that to no avail.

To MJQ424:
P4 3.2GHz, 1Gb internal mem, XP Prof 5.1.2600
Have no other apps running at the time, just switching from one user to the other.
Slow means that normally switching between users takes about 10 to 12 secs.
With Spyware installed it takes about 30 to 45 secs.
Uninstalled Spyware and it was back to normal again.
Once user is online operation is reasonable but opening apps like IE and Outlook still take far longer then normal.
Hope this helps to get me a solution.

Hi
Fast user switching problems have been reported in the past. Please see this thread for more information: www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46140

Hi Steffen,

Slowness may be due to many extensive tools providing real time protection from potential threats to your PC.

Try to turn the OnGuard feature ON and then turn all of the individual tools to OFF. Then turn all of the Tools back ON one at a time to see if you can isolate the problem tool specific to your PC.

Also make sure you are not running more than one anti-spyware for real-time protection, fir that can affect PC performance.

Regards,
Hunter

Hi Hunter,
Did as suggested. Even switching off all individual components of On Guard does not remedy the problem.
Only when i switch On Guard off as a whole the problem is gone.
Have followed the thread suggested by MJQ424 but could not directly find a remedy there nor a solution in the resolved/reported posts.

Did read something from Wembely about putting somthing in kernel compatibility mode which apparently solved the problem for him.
Can anybody eleborate on that one?

Thanks all so far.

just keep onguard off and scan regually. just wait till a new version comes out and see if it fixes it. you should be safe enough untill a fix comes.

Kind of defeats the purpose though doesn't it? Like having a ferrari with no engine, just as useful :s We bought SD for real time protection not a scanner as and when, this hardly protects your pc from malware.

Hi all,
Selected the "kernel compatability mode" in the setting page and sure as what, the slow account switching problem is gone.
What i dont know is which other consequences this has since it is not selected by default.
Anybody knows???

Enabling the kernel compatibility mode does not compromise the security or SD in any way. It does not affect the OnGuard tools or the scanning capabilities of Spyware Doctor. It changes the method in which Spyware Doctor integrates with the system but it has the same capabilities.
Hope that helps
