My system just auto updated to 179 but there's no announcement on this site as to what changes it makes. Bearing in mind the troubles that many of us have experienced recently, it would have been nice to read about it first.

I agree 100%. I just saw that my autoupdate downloaded build 179 so I came straight here to see what has been fixed and there seems to be no information available about that.
After all the grief that PC Tools have put us loyal customers through I think that the least they can do is have the courtesy to put some pretty detailed release notes up here for each new build so that we know what's going on.

My e-mail from support tells me to go and download 179. The auto update has allready installed 179. Does 'A' know what 'B' is doing in PC Tools?
The 'Sticky' on tops announces the release of 179: The text is all about 177?
May we have some CLEAR instructions please?
I hear what You say, I see what You do.

I'm so glad that 5.0.0.179 exists. I was having a shutdown error problem and now it's gone. Spyware Doctor seems to be working fine for me now.
I think what's happening at PC Tools is that they are trying their best to get this new version to work well and maybe while doing so the communication is breaking down a little.

SD5 w/ AV is terrific for me. I removed Norton AV and noticed a huge increase in performance and stability and even eliminated a serious problem (frequent lock up and "windows has recovered from a serious error" messages). I think pctools deserves a lot of credit. They could have been content selling the world's best antispyware, but instead, they rebuilt from the ground up to make it even better.
What other AS / AV combination is this good with this little system drain for $29.95?
Perhaps we should give them a little time to work out any remaining issues and look forward to the reviews that are going to verify how great SD5 is. We can tell everyone we were here from the beginning. I don't think pctools owes us anything -- it seems to me they've been incredibly kind (ie AChen). Heck, if someone is unhappy with version 5 (some people on this forum seem to complain 5 times a day), why can't they use SD4 that is still available from pctools website and is the industry standard? Or, is this the first time someone has paid $29.95 for software they didn't end up using? Look, I don't mean anything personal -- I'm sure there are people upset by SD5. Please don't choose to attack me with your responses. I am a computer amateur (a nobody) and these are just my thoughts.

I am pleased that SD V5 is working well for you, and I agree when it works it is an excellent programme and I am sure PC Tools will eventually solve all of the outstanding issues.
However as someone who installed V5 on 30th January - the day after Beta 1 was released perhaps I can give you some of the background.
My experience with V5 has been mixed, some builds worked perfectly, some with limited on guard functionality and others not at all as is presently the case.
Its true that there have been many installs uninstalls and re-installs over the past few weeks, updating from one Beta to another and often back again, reverting to V4 etc.
I would count myself as one of the fortunate ones in that I have so far been able to uninstall and re-install SD V4 or V5 without any great problem.
Others have not been so lucky and have had to spend many hours getting the PC back up and running.
It is frustrating when you turn your PC off at night with everything working just fine, restart it in the morning, SD does a smart update and the PC freezes, which has happened to me and its necessary to uninstall at some inconvenient time.
This coupled with the fact that when first released V5 caused too many people too many problems which some have found hard to forgive and forget are the reasons behind many of the angry posts, some of the posts I would also agree with you I find to be over the top but we all react to things differently.
Sure if V5 doesn't work you can go back to V4 which I have, but believe me after using V5 it seems very slow in starting up and updating to the point many find it unacceptable.
Fortunately overall things are getting better for the majority of subscribers and let's hope it contines that way.
So enjoy the excellent product but please don't be surprised if you read angry posts from those who have been less fortunate.

Congrats! You're lucky and fortunate that everything has worked fine for you. However, the same isn't true for everyone attempting to run SD5. And some of us can't return to SD4 due to the fact that it is incomptabile with other security software we are running. Believe me, I would have if I could have.
And why should I not be upset about paying money for something that doesn't work as advertised? I am glad that things are getting resolved and SD5 is getting better, but that doesn't change the fact that the product was released too soon and that my antispyware app was basically broken for far too long. Yeah, you're right, I shouldn't be upset at all about that, right?
And yes, PC Tools does owe us something. They owe us software that works. We paid for working software after all. I am just glad they are working hard to fix it, but wish they would have done so before it was released.
By the way, I have any number of software apps I have written over the years that I would be willing to sell you for $29.95 - they may or may not work. Are you interested?
I also like the way you "attack" us by basically stating we are a bunch of whiners, but then beg us not to attack you back. Of course, don't consider this an attack; I am just explaining how a lot of us feel about our experiences with SD5.
By the way, as sick as you are getting about all us "whiners" there are a lot of us here too that are getting sick and tired about hearing all you people with no problems complain about us being upset. Trust me, we have a right to be upset. Telling us not to be upset is not helping do anything except upset us more.
